Notices

This blog is exclusively reserved for posting Thirukural - both in Tamil & English. It will also include an explanation of the Kurals in English for the benefit of all IL'ites visiting this space.

This is a collective work by a few IL'ites to share the knowledge of Thirukural amongst the IndusLadies Community.

We used to post '5 Kurals a day' earlier. In order to give more time for the readers to read it, absorb it and enrich this space with their comments, we have changed the frequency to a weekly blog posting of '10 Kurals a week'.

Hope you will all enjoy the Kurals. Do not forget to leave your comments on our effort.

CHAPTER 38

OOZH

DESTINY

Aagoozhaal thorum asaivinmai; kaiporul
pokoozhaal thorum madi.

Resolutions and perseverance comes to a man when good fate comes to him, but laziness prevails when it disappears.

Paedhai padukkum izhavoozh; arivagattrum
aagaloozh uttra kadai.

Bad fate dulls one's mental strength, but when good fate is upon him, it will expand his intelligence, first.

Nuniya nool pala karpinum mattrumthan
unmai arivae migum.

Whatever knowledge a man acquires through his learning of subtle works, what remains with him is the knowledge that fate decreed unto him.

Iruvaeru ulagathu iyarkai; thiruvaeru
thelliyar aadhalum vaeru.

Acquiring wealth and knowledge are two separate fates that a man is ordained with.

Nallavai yellam theeyavaam; theevavum
nallavaam selvam seyarkku.

When the tide is against a person, even the good things will turn bad, but when the tide is on, even the evil things turn good.
