311. சிறப்பீனும் செல்வம் பெறினும் பிறர்க்கின்னா
செய்யாமை மாசற்றார் கோள்.
Sirappeenum selvam perinum pirarkkinnaa
seiyaamai maasattraar kol.
The noble minded people would not hurt others, even if they could obtain wealth which confers greatness.
312. கறுத்தின்னா செய்தவக் கண்ணும் மறுத்தின்னா
செய்யாமை மாசற்றார் கோள்.
Karuthinna seidhava kannum maruthinnaa
seiyaamai maasattraar kol.
It is the determination of the wise, not to do evil in return for those who had cherished enimity and done them evil.
313. செய்யாமல் செற்றார்க்கும் இன்னாத செய்தபின்
உய்யா விழுமம் தரும்.
Seiyaamai settraarkkum innaadha seidhapin
uiyaa vizhumam tharum.
For a noble person, the very thought of causing
revengeful injury to the one who has injured him already without any provocation, will be causing him untold miseries for ever.
314.இன்னா செய்தாரை ஒறுத்தல் அவர்நாண
நன்னயம் செய்து விடல்.
Inna seidhaarai oruththal avarnaana
nannayam seidhu vidal.
To punish a evil-doer, is to do good to him in return for his evil action, which will make him ashamed of himself.
315.அறிவினான் ஆகுவது உண்டோ? பிறிதின்நோய்
தம்நோய்போல் போற்றாக் கடை.
Arivinaan aaguvadhu undo? piridhinnoi
thamnoipol pottraa kadai.
What is the use of one's knowledge, when one pines not at others pain as his own?

 |  My all time fav is #314.. still cannot forget how my tamil teacher drummed it.. But over the years I have seen its not true.. people who continue to harm others just continue to do so! I think thats the way of the world!! Thanks again for writing it here for us:) |
