296. பொய்யாமை அன்ன புகழில்லை எய்யாமை
எல்லா அறமும் தரும்
Poyyaamai anna pugazhillai eyyaamai
Ellaa aramum tharum
There is no praise equal to that which truthfulness shall bring;
It shall spontaneously bestow one with virtue of every kind.
297. பொய்யாமை பொய்யாமை ஆற்றின் அறம்பிற
செய்யாமை செய்யாமை நன்று
Poyyaamai poyyaamai aatrin arampira
seyyaamai seyyaamai nandru.
If a man can abstain forever from falsehood,
it is fine even if he does not have any other virtue.
298. புறந்தூய்மை நீரான் அமையும் அகந்தூய்மை
வாய்மையாற் காணப் படும்
Puranthooimai neeran amayum agathooimai
Vaaimayaal kaanap padum
Water cleanses the external body, but it is truthfulness
which stands as proof of the purity of the heart within.
299. எல்லா விளக்கும் விளக்கல்ல சான்றோர்க்குப்
பொய்யா விளக்கே விளக்கு
Ellaa vilakkum vilakkalla saandrorkku
Poyyaa vilakke vilakku
Every lamp is not the same; for the wise,
it is the light of truth that truly illuminates.
300. யாம்மெய்யாக் கண்டவற்றுள் இல்லை எனைத்தொன்றும்
வாய்மையின் நல்ல பிற
Yaam meyyaak kandavatrul illai enaithondrum
Vaaymayin nalla pira
Among all that we have seen in this world,
there is nothing greater than truthfulness
This portion is translated by Sowparnika....
