291. வாய்மை எனப்படுவது யாதெனின் யாதொன்றும்
தீமை இலாத சொலல்
Vaaimai enappaduvathu yaadhenin yaadhondrum
Theemai ilaadha solal
Truthfulness is the speaking of that which is
free from even the slightest taint of evil.
292. பொய்ம்மையும் வாய்மை இடத்த புரைதீர்ந்த
நன்மை பயக்கும் எனின்
Poimayum vaaimai idatha puraitheerndha
Nanmai payakkum enin
Falsehood may be allowed to take the place of truth,
if it results in a good that is free from even the slightest fault.
293. தன்நெஞ்சு அறிவது பொய்யற்க பொய்த்தபின்
தன்நெஞ்சே தன்னைச் சுடும்
Thannenju arivadhu poyyarkka poithapin
Thanneje thannai sudum
Let not a man utter something that his heart knows is false;
If he does, his conscience shall forever burn his heart.
294. உள்ளத்தால் பொய்யாது ஒழுகின் உலகத்தார்
உள்ளத்துள் எல்லாம் உளன்
Ullathaal poyyaadhu ozhugin ulagathaar
Ullathul ellaam ulan
The man whose heart is free from falsehood
shall forever remain in the hearts of all.
295. மனத்தோடு வாய்மை மொழியின் தவத்தொடு
தானம் செய்வாரின் தலை
Manathodu vaaymai mozhiyin thavathodu
dhaanam seyvaarin thalai
The man who always utters the truth with all his heart
is greater than those who practice charity and austerity.
