This blog is exclusively reserved for posting Thirukural - both in Tamil & English. It will also include an explanation of the Kurals in English for the benefit of all IL'ites visiting this space.
This is a collective work by a few IL'ites to share the knowledge of Thirukural amongst the IndusLadies Community.
We used to post '5 Kurals a day' earlier. In order to give more time for the readers to read it, absorb it and enrich this space with their comments, we have changed the frequency to a weekly blog posting of '10 Kurals a week'.
Hope you will all enjoy the Kurals. Do not forget to leave your comments on our effort.

5 kural a day
Tharkaathu tharkondaar peni thagaisaandra
Sorkaathu sorvilaal penn
She who guards herself, untiringly tends to her husband,
And brings him fame, is the ideal wife.
sirai kaakum kaapu evanseyyum magalir
Niraikaakkum kaappe thalai
Even the guards of a prison pale into insignificance
Before chastity, a woman’s greatest shield
Petraal perin peruvar pendir perumsirappu
Puthelir vaazhum ulagu
The woman who brings glory to her husband shall herself
Gain glory in the world of the Gods.
Pugazh purindha ill ilorku illai igazhvaarmun
Yeru pol peedu nadai
The man whose wife is not praised for her virtues
Cannot walk with his head held high
mangalam enba manaimaatchi matruadhan
Nankalam nanmakkal peru
The excellence of a wife is a household’s blessing
And good children are jewels in that blessing.
