Tango of faith and hope

Well it is nothing to do with the movie hope and faith.

I was listening to a song, that my kids were playing, and singing along, a song from the hindi movie, JUMBO, which goes likes this…Everything gonna be alright (though it reminds me about a old song in the same genre). How many times, have we sung this in the school days,

we shall overcome, we shall overcome,
deep in my heart I do believe,
we shall overcome some day…

The conviction that everything is going to be alright is the faith. Some say religion is faith. The dictionary goes on to say that it is belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof.

Hope is about our desires, about things that you know, many a times as is seen, we go through trying times, and our faith goes for a bashing. Hope is anticipation that things will be fine, while faith is the conviction that things will be fine.

A father asks his son to hold his hand before crossing, a road, the father hopes to protect his son to the best of his interest, at the same time, when the son holds the father’s hand, it is his faith that his father will always protect him. Though both the actions are the same, there is a subtle difference.

There is a story that says, the whole village was praying for rains, and they were told that there will be rains once the rituals are done. One elder starts looking at the skies for clouds and another kid who takes a umbrella, when he goes out. The elder’s action is hope while the kid’s action is of faith that it will rain.

Faith in self is the most important ingredient for success. faith in our ability to act meaningfully, in our power to begin the process of deliverance or success, in our pursuit of happiness around.

Well, I do not want to write a essay on faith and hope.


Faith is thinking of the rainbow,
That will peep after the downpour,

Faith is the miracle that works
When no other medicine gives hope,

Faith is the hand that guides you,
Through the maze of confusions,

And when the leg meanders
At crossroads, it’s faith that
Gives a shove towards the right way.

Hope is like the feather that floats down,
And your doubts, shoo it away

Faith in yourself is important,
When you have demons to slay,

Faith in your children is must,
For their flourishing growth,

Faith in your spouse is must,
For a wonderful relationship.

Hope and faith are in a tango,
Who takes the lead is not
So important as long as
It works as the oar to push
The boat of life ahead.
