Did you know about this Day?
Posted 14th March 2008 at 07:50 AM by Shanvy
Last week I was on Mount Road near the voltas signal.A week day, the traffic was hectic, too hot, was sitting waiting for the traffic to ease as the driver had to take a left turn. We were all stopped as there was some procession progressing.
Suddenly there was this procession, with a band and guys dancing. There was a pallavan bus, with very few people inside, the bus was decked with flowers, for a change the driver had big smile and a very happy face, seeing this started searching for the conductor, finally located him and he was enjoying a piece of cake and a cup of juice with the passegers.
I was shocked, what was happening, and after that this was the conversation that took place between me and the driver.
Me:My god! what a different scene from the normal moody, angry ptc drivers, conductors and passengers.
Driver: Yes. and that too with police protection.
Me: But why police protection.
Driver: Have you not studied in college.?
Me: Yes. what has that got to do with this procession
Driver : This has everything to do with the college
Me : What?
Driver : It is called bus day. A celebration by the college boys who use that bus everyday the whole year. they celebrate by giving a treat to the driver and conductor, also some present to them.
Me : And the government accepts wasting one whole day by the students for celebrating this Bus day.
Driver : Yes! other wise how will they be doing this with the support of police personnel
I really never knew there was a bus day before that. my god, what a waste of one whole day. the traffic stagnant, the collection that got stopped in that route, and on stop police personnel's man hours..
I feel it is a waste of money
. If the students wanted to celebrate could have taken the driver and conductor during their lunch hour and treated them.
What do you think..and BTW did you know about this Bus day,Or are you all thinking I have not seen the face of college..

| | Dear Shanthi ma'am Surprised to see me in blogs section?? Landed up here accidentally while searching something else n the word 'college' True ...when it comes to celebration, that should be done with out giving any disturbance to others..But today's youngsters (though i am not including all, still many) don't seem to care about all that. They need to get things done their way.Year before last, we celebrated our friendship day in college. Not only our section students but almost all celebrated in allotted classrooms. It was total fun. We ordered for a huge cake jus for the sake of applying it on others. And we bought a separate cake for eating. Bought samosas, cool drinks too. But those cool drinks were used like champagnes..shaking the cool drink bottle n opening the cap fiercely jus to wet others with the carbonated liquid..But for all these our respected staff members were there with us to make sure others were not disturbed by this..Even then, last year our HOD dint grant permission to celebrate inside the class. So we went to Besant Nagar Beach, occupied a small space near the shore n enjoyed playing beach volleyball, dodge ball n many other games drawing a big circle around us to make sure we don't go beyond that circle n get curses from the lovers enjoying their own world there..![]() |

| | Dear Shanthi ma’am I thought I should not step in blogs section again.. You know why? Your ELDER sil drove me away with a cane from one of her recent blog n has written that I should not enter again ![]() Reading your line ‘would like your august presence here more often’ i was not able to sit back n jus read your post without replying.. But somebody doesn’t like even my leap year presence here..wat to do? Shanthi ma’am you need not tell us that you were in library always, we could see the impact of that here in IL even now. Do u mean I bunk classes? Bunking finds no meaning in our dictionary without the word ‘mass’ in front of it.. United we stand always.. On that particular friendship day, we dint bunk classes n we dint go to beach..It was half day that day for us n only in the afternoon we went.. We students always have masti no matter where we are..Beach added some more flavour to it..As I told u earlier we were very strict in seeing to that the love birds there were not disturbed by us.. Ok ok..You dont have to regret or doubt whether you had been to college really. Mine is a ‘typical’ college..why don’t you come n join in my college now? No No..You imagining yourself now as a college going student n all is too much..i meant to say there is vacancy for a lecturer post. I can recommend you for that. But I can't guarantee you that my friends will listen if you come n talk about MuthuswamiDhikshidhar n Thiyagaraja Bhagavadhar even there .. ![]() |

| | AC dear, Why did you drive meena with a cane??no problems, meena, you are welcome in our blog. you can rip it apart, hijack what ever you want. but, did you know about a bus day..being the new gen college gal. Thanks for the compliment. but those days, my classmates and hostel mates used to make fun, she can be found in the hostel, library or lab. nowhere else..(what a boring life i had led??) mass bunking sounds good. that way you would not have lost classes right. nice to know that you have masti, a long with your studies. I am not regretting. now I may not be able to do justice to moomoothigal, but digital electronics, computer architecture may be I have not touch and can do a little justice. but believe me you would not want a lecturer like me. |

| | It had been more than a decade since I completed my college. And I have known this college day celebrations right from that time. Dear Meena and other college goers, pls dont mistake me, Not just this gen of youngsters even our gen of college students and every gen of college students had fun and real fun. This trend of Bus day is started specially by the Nanadanam Arts College students and now it is been followed by many other college students (especially boys). They dont listen to the drivers or conductors who ask them to move inside or not to stand in the food boards. This day they really honour them. They make sure that the same conductor and driver is honoured and in general many drivers and conductors choose to go in those routes in the peak hours. I have seen many of my friends becoming so friendly with these drivers and conductors and still now they have in touch with them and their family and infact one of my friend is paying for the education of the kids of a driver and conductor. Every thing have two sides, both good and the bad. I just wanted to show you the good side of the bus day. |

| | rajmi, thanks for writing hereNice to know about this day being there for so long.. I agree that they are making the day of the driver and conductor and also helping their families. My only question is why to disrupt traffic, going in for police protection and wasting manhours... |

| | As far as I know this procession thing is a recent trend. When my friends celebrated, they all get into that bus and on that particular day, they ask the driver to drive the bus round and round; they wont bunk the classes but with the permission of the HODs they do it. Each route celebrate bus day in different hours of the day so that they wont distrurb the traffic. Infact they have been doing these celebrations in the non peak hours. I think the trend is changed now. |

| | Rajmi, I was told by the driver that day it was a trend for the last few years. I am not against the students celebrating a day.it is only about disturbing traffic at peaks hours... |
Posted 17th March 2008 at 05:43 AM by Shanvy |
| | Should be so, because when I asked my friend, he told me they made sure that they didnot disturb the traffic and they always had the celebrations only during non peak hours. Infact my friend and his gang take the driver and conductor for lunch on the busday it seems. |
