Did he say ``get back to the kitchen will you..?

hello..
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
I had just finished cooking. The usual kootu, a salad and brown rice. With the children away working in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Bangalore</st1:place></st1:City>, I had got used to cooking minimum (?) vegetables. If I have to use more than one vegetable I usually made mixed vegetable koottu or mixed vegetable curry and the salad is usually a mixture of onions, tomato, cucumber, coconut and coriander leaves. Although I did have whole grain batter in the fridge, I wanted to finish my cooking early so that I can have time to read.
Me the great bookworm, loves books no end. I have to read anything from bits of paper, newspaper, especially the magazine sections, books on health, management, society, nature or whatever..!
So just as I was cleaning up to leave there was a knock on the door. It was the fellow who gave us the cable connection. It was the first of the month and he had come to get his monthly payment for cable connection. I hurried up to get his couple of hundreds and almost snatched the receipt from his hands. As I was turning away he called. I turned around with an irritating look. He had a stainless steel dosa ladle in his hand. This is for you he said. I asked him what’s it all about. He said `oh it is a gift from us for making a payment on the first of the month..! because quite a few people send them back asking them to come tomorrow which turns out to be another tomorrow..!
I came back to find DH smiling. Now what was that sly smile all about?. A gift of dosa ladle he asked. Only then did I realise it was a kitchen item as gift. The cable fellow could have got a puja bowl or flower vase, now why did he have to bring a dosa ladle ?. Did he say `` get back to the kitchen will you?’’

| | Dear Satya, It was interesting as well as a little bit funny when u expressed that "get back to kitchen will u?"....Its very common to present the girl baby with a kitchen set and a male child with a toy like car...at least wen i was a kid this used to be the case.Also, we have seen umpteen number of times that in all magazines...or any books, a family will be potrayed with dad sitting with paper/mom in kitchen....So i think its pretty common to recive a gift like this |

| | Very useful gift I will say since I have so much use for ladles..Now what will I do with another pictures, doll, statues or vase or worse still artificial flowers..this to me is the perfect gift.... we have to find fault or so you think of everything that crosses our way so used are we in this way that it never crosses our minds to be delighted with unusual ways of gifting and forget to just smile and say thank you for indeed we are blessed to be able to use this tool so thank you dear friend and God Bless !!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| | hey satya, Hey all these marketing guys, always gift things that are useful in the kitchen..what could be the actual reason...Even one of my medical rep friend was commenting it starts from water bottle,flasks,then tavas, dinner sets...to the higher end of fridge. On a lighter note, maybe he wanted to tell you that you can hit the person who is not allowing you to watch your favourite programme, without searching too much...... |

| | Hi, All the marketing gimmicks... All these people will only give kitchen items or those things which will attract the ladies... It is mainly because, they know who takes decisions in the house.... or who runs the show...hahahahahaha.. Sathya just tell him next time, you dont cook at home... I bet he will bring something which will attract you and not your DH..... Hahahahaha... Life is to enjoy... enjoy.... |

| | Hi Sathya, That was too good. But frankly, why in all these marketing gimmicks , they always hand out dosai thiruppi or karandi or some such. There so many other useful household stuff they can give even if it is lower budget. I am aksing this since, all the ads i see on tv , for every thing it is always a set of karandis or dosai thiruppi or jalli karandi or something similar. I wouldn't have minded if the cable guy gave a rolling pin instead. You know it does double duty!!! |

| | Satya, as usual a nice blog! They do give kitchen items because they think that we are the 'queen' of the house, and they do want to 'kakka pidichu' us so that we can support their cable, because it is the 'thaai kulam' who are glued to their TV sets during the day and night serial hours. Moreover, it is we who have the 'spending power' isn't it! hahaha! sriniketan |

| | How would you have liked a video game or a sport's watch or a men's utility item like lawn mower or a hose for car wash ? Kidding !!! I would have liked if he presented a book. The gift and the situation was amusing and so was the way it's written..I could just imagine the look you had when he handed it to you. |
