Hello everyone,
This is my blog on IL , you can expect just about anything here. It can be a poem, story, a quote , a song, a movie, a friend's real-life crisis, my office, my dreams, my ambitions..Anything which touches my heart.
Life so far has been rich whirlwind journey. It has taken me to literally whole world in term of reading , travelling and reaching out. I sometimes feel twenty four hours are less in a day. So much to do, so much to see, so much to imbibe. Have you ever looked at nature and thought.. For whom, god has created this wonderful maze of surprises.. For those who dont believe in God. I would say, for whom, this big-bang theory has created such mind blowing landscapes.
So sit tight. I am going to take you along on my journey of life. Its anything but boring. Lot of spice , lot of gossip, some wisdom, some mischiefs and then some good karma..
Ria

Nesting in my nest..
Posted 29th April 2008 at 12:44 PM by Ria2006
I have to post a picture to substantiate it.. But for now lazy me will try to describe in words of occurance going around my home.
I have nice rented home in lush green area. And it has hoards of trees and greenery. Now I wouldn't be surprised if a bird chooses to nest on any the trees around. But I am quite surprised by a sparrow choosing to skip those trees and choosing my covered patio in backyard for her nest. I welcome her but I do feel her choice is Jara hatke..
Well after the first apparent shock , now goes thoughts over what I see and how I see. There is desperate small form of life who keeps sitting whole day in nest and her all eyes are set on door of my drawing room which open in patio. She will fly innumerous number of times just with a noise of door knob. She will do all daring antics in front of us to have a quick visit to her nest.
I suspect she has already laid the eggs. But I am really touched by her ordeals and jest for procreation. I being the healthy and well-fed person, clinch at the thought of having kid. Here I see a fragile ecosystem member fighting all odds to make sure her genes outlast her. Strange ! Right! Somewhere in our being we have corrupted our DNA to suit our lazy selves.
My dearest hubby has all soft feelings for her. He has even taken pain to place water and bird food next to her nest, so that our forced guest will not have trouble locating food. we still have to check if she has accepted our hospitality. We watch her nest in night atleast three four times, just to see how birds sleep in night. On weekends, the frequency is higher. Like all normal guests , we are curiously waiting to lay our eyes on her future progenies. Not sure how to conduct baby shower for her..
Do you have any ideas, Throw them all away here..

| | Awww! such a sweet post ! From my experience after the eggs hatch, they will just leave ! They just don't enjoy any interference in their family and according to them, your patio is the home they found, so its also their place! Even as tiny beings, they have all the power to take care of themselves. Its a good point that you brought out that we lean more towards our laziness, we ought to learn from them. I hope they accept your offering, it brings such joy.... Even I see a sparrow hopping around my patio once a while, now I am wondering if my shady patio is a great nest idea for her! |

| | Hi Ria, Wow.......really touchy..... I had also experienced so many "Jara Hatke" activities of these tiny-winny birds...... Ours is a rented appartment full of greenery around and the view is just like as if we are staying in a tree house.....Like others, I had many small but little bushy varieties of plants in my balcony.....To mu utmost surprise, we saw a nest in one of my Dracenea planted Pot.........anyways.....it was last year and me and hubby ised to go in the night to see whether the owner of nest has returned or not.... And this year another crazy soul used to come and knock the glass windows very hard with her beak....as if she is playing.....we though that probably she is attracted to some of the decor inside the living room, so we opened the door, so that she will come and see by herself.....but she never did so....... Even we thought at first that she is attracted to our plants kept inside (we used to keep plants indoor when winter), so brought all the plants onto patio a little earlier before onset of spring to prevent her beaks.....but she was crazy......she used to continue her act for around a month (we could see her act only in weekend morning) and now she has vanished..... Regards. |

| | Dear Ria, That was indeed very cute! A baby birdie shower, really sounds interesting with the music of chirps, caws, quacks, whistles, coos etc. all invitees for the shower. Yes its amazing to see the lil sparrow with a swollen tummy awaiting the arrival of her new born. Infact having witnessed something like this prompted me to write the poem: When kids fly away, the first few lines are on a pregnant sparrow. Nice blog Ria, I enjoyed reading it!! Love, Devika |

| | Indeed a pleasure to read your take too..Ranganayaki , Meeta and Devika Indeed a pleasure to read your experiences too. Meeta, Beak and glass match is one of the favourite game birds play. They see their image in glass and consider an opponent fighting. My husband has over enthusiasm to peek in her nest. I am somehow holding it off, cos I dont want bird to get angry or hurt. Thanks for reading my experience. Ria |

| | ![]() i had this experience long time ago when the children were small and i had a tile roof then, and they had built a nest inside the house very high some 20ft above the ground, in those days they always built very high roofs, and the pair were chirping in the morning not allowing to sleep, invariable all her little ones will fall all the 20ft and gone, but she would always insist making a nest there, and until i leave the front door open they have no access to go outside, so both will start screeching early morning even before 6 so my husband got damn annoyed he took a long bamboo and made a hole in the ventilator glass just enough for them to keep flying out side, so from then on, they were at peace, i do miss all that now, thanks for bringing those memory of another day..sunkan |
