Procedure to get your Passport quicker

Posted 20th June 2008 at 03:24 AM by nandhini_r
For getting new / renewal / reissue of passports.1. Apply online on http://passport.nic.in/ . select your city home page and after filling out the relevant form and submitting you will get the date and time of appointment to submit your passport application.2. Submit all documents on the appointed day/time alongwith all relevant docs. PAN CARD / RATION CARD / ADDRESS PROOF are very important docs3. On payment of fees you will be issued a receipt which has a file reference no.4. Check your application status on http://passport.nic.in/ by inputting your file reference no. in the status page5. Wait for 2 weeks and visit your local designated passport verification police station to check if your application is received by them.6. After your visit they send you a notice requesting you to visit the police station with 2 witnesses who reside in your building.7. You also need to carry the same set of documents submitted in the passport office with 3 sets of photograph8. In addition you need to get a letter from your Society stating that you are residing at so and so address.9. You will be asked to sign some more forms at the police station. The NOC is then issued by the Police which will be sent to the passport office for their processing10. Check your application status online after a few days. You will get to see that your police report is clear and that your passport will be dispatched in a weeks time.I have written this blog out of personal experience as I was not aware of the above procedure and was waiting for the police to come to the residence for verification which ended in a loss of time of 3 months.
I hope all will agree that this procedure ideally saves time for us and the Government . I will be happy if this information is found helpful to all. Pl share your comments and also share this information with all your friends.

Hi Nandini!
All those things sure can be done online because we want to save time and trouble! But do the people at the passport office really bother to keep up the appointment as is given to us? We had gone through procedures on-line and still we had to enter through the back door using influence for renewal of pass port of my son and myself. I wonder how were the experiences of others.

Good Morning Supriya and Malathi,

As I have mentioned this is my personal experience and I was able to fill out the details online and get appointment and completed submitting the necessary documents. One needs to personally follow-up for the police verification. I am now planning to get the passports for my children and will keep you all posted if there is any deviation in the procedure. Thanks for understanding.
