Bapu has been urging me the whole of the last three days to ask you a question. But I said , " leave them alone, it is a long weekend and they are all busy"
" Doing what ", he asked.
" Going out for a short trip , or completing their leftover jobs. Moreover Diwali is round the corner, redoing their houses maybe, whatever, but I do not wish to disturb them."

"But is 2nd supposed to be a picnic day?"he urged again.

"See it is followed by two offdays...what do you expect the people to do? "

But looking at his sad contenance I felt bad, so I added,"what to do , these are trying times bapu, the world is changing and with recession there is hardly anytime to enjoy, due to overload of work.Do not begrudge them a couple of off days"

"And who will sit down to talk about you, except some politician ....who does only to showoff that they still have some values left. And yes offcourse the drunkards."

"The drunkards? And what does that mean",
"Yeah, some will not get their drink today, and some would have perforce bought it yesterday, and will drink at home itself."

"Oh !my my....", he was nonplussed.

"See just as we believe in different GODs , similarily, our expectations from our chutti are also different."

"Muzzy, today you are not talking from the same heart, as you always do of me."

"See Bapu , today I am not talking of what I think, I am telling you about the others' feelings. And we cannot deny them the right to think in their own way."

"O.K.! tell me the question you wish to ask." I finally gave in.
"Am I relevant today?" And then looking at my expression added " All over everybody is asking this very quetion , there are debates planned for the same. And I feel they would not do so if I was .And there is this guy who tweeted...thats the way you say , right.....and caused a debate in the blog world too.."

"Oh Bapu, how can you think so, you see, there are so many programmes today..." , but he would not let me pacify.

"I know what the politicians are doing, but I have as such given up on them. Today I am bothered about my people, who INSPITE of the politicians have been trying to find the right path. Today when even the religious gurus are fooling them, how are they managing, am I relevant in guiding them for a better tommorow. Go muzzy , go and ask."
And what else can a follower do....do as instructed.

Nice to read this one.Especially when this year Gandhi Jayanthi also passed as usual. Its true we even forgot about the purpose of Gandhi Jayanthi and counted it just as a holiday. For other holidays which are mainly festivals,we are busy celebrating them with all the respect. Its also true that we have not given that much importance (even on his birthday) who spent his life and luxury just for the sake of our freedom, which our generation consider as birthright.

    Dear Muzna,
On Oct 2nd, when i took DD to school, I told her that today was Gandhi Jayanthi to celebrate mahathma's birthday, he was the one who brought freedom to India and Indians and she promptly asked "what is freedom amma?" a question difficult enough in itself, more so when you have to explain it to a 5+ yr old. i did the best i could. yes, he is relevant and would be always.

I feel Bapu is still relevant, be it in the form of Lage Raho Munna Bhai movie or likes of that. It could just be a movie but Bapu's philosophy still holds good. Please tell him that he should not be concerned and be at peace.

A Tribute to Bapu and a whiplash to all of us

    Dear Muzna,

Yes, that is the best tribute to Bapu. And his question about his relevance is really relevant today.

In my club when my friends who were playing shuttle with me finished the game earlier to adjourn for a drink I asked them innocently, "But is not today October 2nd? The bar is closed."

"But that's an eye-wash sridhar. Everybody has already stocked their drinks. for those who were not forearmed the club-boys supply drinks on the stealth at just 15% extra cost."

I could do nothing but shout "Mahatma Gandhi ki jai" and returned home a sad man earlier than usual.

If only I were the president of my club (which I am not and I will never be) I would have printed your blog in Font size 16 and would have posted all over our club premises.

    A job well-done, Muzna.

    regards,
    sridhar
