Last year i had the chance of visiting Mauritius. In this blog, i would like to share with you all some facts about Mauritius.
Mauritius is a small island near African Continent in the Southwest of Indian Ocean. The capital of Mauritius is Port Louis. The entire island can be crossed in less than two hours time.
This small beautiful island has many natural beauty treasures in it.Following are Mark Twain's words about Mauritius,
"Mauritius was made first, then heaven was copied from it"
and anyone who visits Mauritius will surely agree with the above statement. The white beach sands, the crystal clear sea makes it to be the paradise on earth. Its specially called the "HoneyMoon Spot"
The currency is Mauritius Rupee and the language people speak most is Creol. It is a mixture of African and French languages. The National Bird of Mauritius is Dodo which is now in extinct.(I have attached a photo of this bird)
This beautiful island was formed due to the volcanic eruption. The tourists are also taken to that mountain spot which was once upon a time an active volcano.
Most of the People living there are whose Forefathers were Indians. These people came to Mauritius to work in the sugarcane fields and were brought in during the British Rule.51% of the population living in Mauritius are Hindus and there are many temples found.
Sugarcane is harvested in 90 % of the agricultural lands in Mauritius.Even when we travel by road,in both sides we can see sugarcane planted.
These are the places of interest in Mauritius
which i visited,
1.Pamplemousses Botanical Garden
2.Trou Aux Cerfs
3.Chamarel Coloured Earth
4.Black River
5.Grand Bassin
6.Natural History Museum
For those water lovers, this island is a great treasure. There are a lot of water sports going on such as,
sailing, deep-sea fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, jet skiing, sub-water walk, motorboat journeys, parasailing and undersea walk.
I shall discuss about these places and activities in detail in my forthcoming blogs.
Herewith am posting some of the photos taken during our trip.
