I greatly admire the high emotions and devotion that a beautiful queen Meera had for Lord Krishna. She did not bother anybody, anything. She just loved, devoted and dedicated herself to Lord Krishna. People called her "the crazy queen" but she did not bother what people said about her. She applied each breathe, all knowledge and wisdom, all emotions of hers in the glory of Lord Krishna. She wrote:
What should I turn back for?
Rana, to me your slander is sweet.
Some praise me, some blame me.
I go the other way.
On the narrow path, I found God’s people.
What should I turn back for?
I am learning wisdom among the wise,
and the wicked look at me with malice.
Mira’s Lord is Giridhar Nagar.
Let the wicked burn in the kitchen fire
The queen who was brought up and was married in the affluent palace, chose the path of devotion and hardship. Was that the devotion turned into the craze or the unfulfillment with the marital relationship turned into devotion? I am really ignorant about the depth of the great lady's story and do not have any evidence to believe in the story that I have seen in the movie "Meera" starred by Hema Malini. (However, I also do not have any right to assume something different than what the story said. I just have some rights to think critically on the subject matter. Nevertheless, I heartily admire the devotion and contribution of this great sage to our literature).
I DO know only one thing, that we all are a part of the Supreme power, the LIGHT. We all are impatient, vulnerable and curious to become a COMPLETE being. We believe that we would reach COMPLETION by gaining the love from our partner and/or relatives, by gaining the reputation in the society, by gaining other materialistic pleasures, etc. but when we receive everything that we desire, we get saturated with our those possessions. After being with what we believe as filling our void for sometime, we start feeling incomplete again and we seek more for further pleasure. We remain "hungry" whether we possess different belongings or are in the situation the other way round.
Maybe, Meera knew this funda and focused on the path above materialism. She chose the path of Spirituality.
If the God is the LIGHT that could be just experienced, there are other elements like Truth, Love, Peace, Light, Knowledge, Wisdom, etc. that enriches our experience and lifts up our spirits. Krishna means "attraction". We, the human being, whether virtuous or wicked, we all have great attraction for all the elements described above. We all feel the great attraction for the people who are truthful, wise, loving, caring, etc. Regardless of our age, caste, nationality, religion, gender, etc., we get attracted with the person who makes us feel COMPLETION. We feel completed when we realize any or all qualities listed above in the other person. We may feel detached as soon as we find some or more weaknesses in other person. At matured stage of life, we stop judging people and their tangible and intangible possessions. We may become neutral with emotions and get focused on practising virtuous things and take responsibiltiy only for our role. Meera, maybe, had identified her weakness of being so incomplete. She looked for the completion, whole her life and ultimately found the completion with the God. She wrote:
I have none to call my own
Mine is Gopal,
the Mountain-Holder;
there is no one else.
On his head he wears the peacock-crown:
He alone is my husband, Father, mother, brother, relative.
I have none to call my own.
I've forsaken both God,
and the family's honor:
what should I do?
I've sat near the holy ones,
and I've lost shame before the people.
I've torn my scarf into shreds;
I'm all wrapped up in a blanket.
I took off my finery of pearls and coral,
and strung a garland of wildwood flowers.
With my tears,
I watered the creeper of love that I planted;
Now the creeper has grown spread all over,
and borne the fruit of bliss.
The churner of the milk churned with great love.
When I took out the butter,
no need to drink any buttermilk.
I came for the sake of love-devotion;
seeing the world, I wept.
Mira is the maidservant of the Mountain-Holder:
now with love He takes me across to the further shore.
Krishna, our Lord, was extremely practical. I do not remember where I did read, that said "(1) I have given all resources to live your life. When you see one more day added in your life, that shows that you are still loved by me, the God. Use your resources and face the challenges. Give me all your worries and I will take care of you. Focus on your work and performance and do not even bother about the outcome. Trust me, and I would give you the worthiest reward".
He had further added that "(2) I am the Light. If you love the light, do not walk in darkness. The light is in Truth, Love, appreciation, wisdom and knowledge. Walk with me. If you love the Light, do not walk in the darkness".
The crazy queen, continued walking in the Light and gained the great pleasure on her path. The great devotee and the poet did not bother about all blames, labels, abuse and sang loudly:
My Beloved dwells in my heart,
I have actually seen that Abode of Joy.
Mira's Lord is Hari, the Indestructible.
My Lord, I have taken refuge with Thee,
Thy slave.
Happy Birthday to Lord Krishna. Happy Janmashtmi to my IL friends :)
