How much time do you spend on writing content Vs. building readership for your blogs?
Posted 21st August 2008 at 12:13 AM by Induslady
Dear Bloggers,
It is estimated that there are 150million blogs in the world. It is no surprise that a vast majority of those are not updated or abandoned.
What is sad is not that many blogs are abandoned but that many "great" blogs are abandoned. There are innumerable blogs that deserve to flourish, but don't.
Here is my hypothesis. Several bloggers start with the notion that they have great content and hence readership will naturally build. They tend to grossly underestimate the amount of time they need to spend (or slog) building readership for their blog. After the initial excitement of getting a blog up, many bloggers stare at the hard and arduous task of building readership and most give-up.
I read somewhere that bloggers go into blogging expecting to spend 90% of their blogging time writing content and responding to comments. However, successful bloggers tend to spend only 40-50% of their time doing that. The rest of the time they spend building readership.
Now, question for you. How much of your blogging time do you spend in writing blog content and responding to comments? How much of your blogging time do you spend building readership?
I would love to hear your thoughts on how many of the 9 ways to build readership for your blog have you implemented? How many link requests have you sent to other bloggers you know? How many times have you requested people to subscribe to your blog? Would love to hear all your thoughts on the above so we can build some great practices here! Thanks Bloggers!
