We are supposed to be the largest democracy, but why are the politicians trying to make it the most corrupt too?

The new CM of Maharashtra takes the cake. We have seen pics of politicians distributing money and caught on camera. But he announced five lakh each for the three villages which gave him the most votes. Though he says it is for the developmental purposes, but did nobody tell him that this is a blatant bribe.

Moreover being the CM, did nobody tell him that he is now supposed to look after the whole of the state and rise above being just an MLA....i.e. just looking after his own constituency.

But finally the truth will be seen in the next elections, if he is elected again, then we deserve these type only.

Can we all rise up to the demands of our democracy and save it .What we do today will be our legacy for our children too. Lets think this way , coz this will only save our country and our future too.

"See it is followed by two offdays...what do you expect the people to do? "

But looking at his sad contenance I felt bad, so I added,"what to do , these are trying times bapu, the world is changing and with recession there is hardly anytime to enjoy, due to overload of work.Do not begrudge them a couple of off days"

CHANDRAYAN made a historical discovery yesterday...its still clammering the news channels.....Moon has Water. We at home heard , discussed and chewed it but before we could digest and move to another story, my DS comes with his query, "If they have seen water , why are they just talking of it and not showing any pics?":idea Quite a valid question.

My hubby went on to tell him the difference between the water we use and the water that is on the moon . Also the fact that this water cannot be photographed, and it was detected through some scientific methods. The water is not in form of sea, lake, or even as a puddle or not even a drop. It is embedded in the surface in the minerals found there.About 1/2 a ltr in a ton of soil. But it does not mean that this is not water just because we cannot wash out face with it.

Dear DS still needs time to assimilate this. He's still young enough to understand the difference between truth and perception. But what about us, we too want all cut and dried for us to proclaim something as a truth.

Let's take the case of faith in GOD.

Many of us beleive in an entity above us , from whom we ask favours , but the day a favour is not granted our faith is shaken and we start to quetion the very entity before whom we bow.

Thus our faith is also a perception which we think we have till it is put to an exam. It is quite interesting to notice that how we change our thinking with change in our surroundings and changes in our prosperity too at times.

So how can I tell my DS about the presence of water which can not be photographed,
while I myself need to be reaffirmed from time to time regarding my faith.
Oh! me of little faith.:hide:

Delhi came to a halt yesterday. It is the woe of all the people....in all the big cities. Mumbai too is in the same boat.
There are so many reasons to it.
If we forget the obvious non working of the municipal system, we will see that everywhere these cities are generally near some waterbody. All the settlers want a house , but when the area around these rivers etc. is taken up nobody cares, many of us buy these lands for houses. But water needs drainage and with just one rain then the city is deep in water, we lament.

Next we all want a car, and not use the public transport. With these many cars growing , no amount of land is sufficient. In Australia , it is required that anyone who buys a car, has a place to park it.. if we do that in India........mor than half of us will have to go without a car.

And lesser we talk of our population , better it is. As it looks as if people just do not think before a child's birth , that where we will house them.
They say...all who are born will eat their own share which is in their luck. But forget that if there is nothing what will be their share. The problems are glaring and growing.

And not to forget our govt. which talks in terms of GDP...but what about consolidation of what we have gained...by providing facilities for the public. But then what to expect from a chappal and mike throwing parliamentarians.

Here comes the crux of the whole problem
WHO SENT THEM THERE?

US!!!!!!!!!

GREAT!!!!!!!!!

So the whole gamut falls on us, as before casting a vote we see the caste, religion, party, and so many factors, but forget who will work for us.
In our system a person who fights election, needs money for PR, and only the moneyed can afford it. Why we as citizens do not get up and look out for good candidates , and canvass for them, so that others also get to know them.

WE have forgotten our duties.
The day we will get up and do it, the whole system will too.

I feel strongly for our country which our freedom fighters have given their blood for, and our forces even today are fighting to keep united..without a thought for their own life .

It was my visit to the Jallianwalla Bagh in Amritsar , a few years back that I realised his heroic streak. It was after this incident that I tried to find more of this versatile personality.
Not many had the courage to defy the colnial English rulers, but not him. In1919, after the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, he renonced the knighthood which he had received in 1915.
We all know about the Nobel Prize for Literature that he received in 1913, and also of his SHANTI NIKETAN but not many know of his SHRINIKETAN .

As all know that I am a big fan and follower of BAPU- but coz I never ever wrote about BA does not mean I do not adore her. Though I remember her too, I forget to say thanks to her. She, whose shoulder-which supported Bapu - is hardly chronicled.
Is it not like what we do always....we remember our mothers only when they are not around to care for usDrowning, and then we write chronicles in their names.

Do you know that the first deity to be worshipped was THE MOTHER GODESS and that too in many parts of the world. She denoted the mother earth who gave us all that we needed and in that too bountiful. So why is that when we think of Maan, Mother, Ba, Aayi, Mom, Walida, Amma or whatever we call her( even Aunty/Mami at times...heheBig Laugh), we forget to thank the MOTHER EARTH or BHUDEVI( Hindu) or GAIA( Greek) or MATKA ZEIMIA(Slavic)- Janani for all of us.

The stone age man never forgot to pay obeisance to the Mother Godess before starting any new work, we have changed from that species I feel . We just use her but forget to even say thanks...The coming up Earth day is just a KHANA PURTI....i.e. just for name sake.

Even the old tradition of nature worship is smirked upon by the so called educated people, who fail to realise that the 'wise men' of the yester years, rather the yester ages, started these to be reminded of the importance of nature in our lives.

If we have started environment and ecology conservation campaigns...they too are to save our own species. There are few Bishnoi like communities or the Silent Valley like spaces , where people strive to keep their ecology safe just for the love for their surroundings, and to keep them unchanged and serene for the generations to come.

Sustainable development is the way we now device to save our planet . But...ab pachtaye hot kya jab chidiya chuug gayi khet....what can be done when now the time to act has passed. And the key word here too is development and not reverence for the mother nature.

I :bowdownSunderlal Bahuguna for his CHIPKO movement. What he has done for the awareness about environment's protection , could not be achieved by crores of rupees spent on programmes by our Govt. Because our heart is not in it.

Talking of the heart I am reminded of a touching story of a mother who allows her son to take out her heart to give to his lover. But while going to his lover - he slips and falls down, and the mother's heart asks ' OMG sonny are you hurt?'

What more can I say after this....just that before I salute my MOM , I would salute my granny - my NANI; and before that her nani and so on. But before I salute the whole of my maternal geneological tree ------- I would salute MOTHER EARTH .

SHe who feeds me,
She who soothes me,
She who quenches my thirst,
She who just gives and forgives.......

And despite the fact that I bleed her
She still bears me.
My big bear hug for her.
My mother godess
I bow my head before her.........

P.S.Tomorrow is the 40th annual observance of Earth Day. The first one being in 1970. I could not have written this at a better time.

Do you know anybody who calls his/her mother ...AUNTY. Hey don't laugh . Big Laugh.
In the north in many joint families, the children grow up not knowing the exact relationship status and by the time they are mature enough to understand their habits are already formed. Many a times this happens as all memebers in the family look after the child ,rather than just the mother.
So if a child is the offspring of the youngest brother, he will most probably call his mother CHACHI...meaning aunt...as all the cousins would be calling his mother chachi.

This is still okay.. there are instances when they call their parents brother and SILDrowning.
This is true in my family too. My grandfather was posted in a place where the neighbours called them Papaji and Bhabhiji. This was picked up by the elder kids and passed on to the younger kids even when they were posted somewhere else. It was then passed on to the next generation too. And we too called our grand parents Papaji and Bhabhiji.

Rather there are instances when the children pick up what outsiders use , eg. Babuji. When a man is working in an office and others call him babuji , the kids too do the same.

This is followed in other relationships too, eg. my mother would call one of her Buaji ( father's sister) as Mausiji (Mother's sister). You know why..coz the other buaji's kids called this one, as mausijibonk.Quite complex realtions .

And then there are offcourse the neighbourhood Chachijis, Mamijis, and Mausijis. How lovely the system where we would not call each of them plain AUNTY.
And yes calling them by name..God forbid ...do not eventhink of that. I just love these relations . So much of affection we have for all around us and the tradition of respecting all around us.:thumbsup

In the Indian joint families there are many such cute family stories which are not possible in our small nuclear families. The intolernce which is growing now days has taken away a lot from our society including this system. I feel sorry for the coming generations who would not see anything of this sort and thus their emotional attachments too would be different.

A few days back in a party , one of the guys wanted to know about the fetish ladies are having for the strings in blouses or even a shirt of the salwar suit, or a kurti. He seemed to be fascinated by the string business. Are not all men, this being the very reason behind women wearing it. He told how long his wife took, when she went to the tailor to decide on the ropeways she was to decide for the dress. :crazy guy. And nowdays there are one or the other all over the dress.

Someone enquired...........
Does anyone know how tiny can a G-string be before its termed illegal ?Big Laugh. As if it can be anything but tiny.

Earlier we had James Morrison with Strings, now we have Strings singing 'Zinda hoon main' .And they all love to play all things strings, from violin, viola, cello, and bass to guitar and sitar .

Computer programmers say a string is an ordered sequence of symbols.Do the terms binary string and byte string pull any string.

The Strings of string theory of theoretical physics ,are one-dimensional oscillating lines, which can be formulated in terms of points or surfaces too.String theory is a developing branch of theoretical physics that combines quantum mechanics and general relativity into a quantum theory of gravity.

And are we all not tightening our purse strings in these times of recession. We do not wish even a penny to slip out.

We do not wish our DH's to be tied by someone's apron strings but wish that our son's should never ever untie them.

We love the relationships with no strings attached. What is in a string that brings out our defence mechanism. We wish to attach, only when we feel attached...otherwise its a burden.

My hands go up in prayer.........
Oh God so many strings, please deliver me from these strings.

Down comes the reply ... you made them when you wanted them ..now when they tie you up, you wish deliverance?
Actually strings are attachments , which we love to hold on to .... and these strings tie us with desires and materialistic stuff. Till we learn to cut these off we do not get freedom. We stay tied to them and they do not let us attain nirvana.

We all have seen in the last few days how the whole of the world has gone crazy fighting for the few things that a collector had of Bapuji. The reason for the number to be few was that Gandhiji did not believe in collecting, rather in disseminating. He gave away all he had. Did not leave trusts even for his descendents.....only a legacy of the name Gandhi. (Otherwise these things would have been with his family and not with OTIS.)And nobody will ever require anything more than this for a lifetime.
But it happens so that anybody who got the chance to use it( the name) does use it ,whether deservingly or not is an another matterBig Laugh.

What he left for us is his ideology , and all who follow his path are his descendants, his legacy lies with them and no body else. His values of non violence, fighting for justice and for the poor, egalitarian eye of the leader.... there are so many that it has filled books.
And neither I wish to say that what Mallaya did is wrong. Bapu would never would have said so. As he (Mallaya) did what he felt was right for the pride of the nation ( it does seem so).His notion can be different from what Bapu preached . And the beauty of the situation would have been that Bapu wanted a pluralistic society and that means living with different views , and doing so peacefully.

And I do not wish to comment even on two types of media headers
Mallaya pockets .../ Mallaya rescues
( as we know the difference is not due to difference in opinion, but difference of financial backers)Big LaughMy mentor , i'm sure would have grinned his toothless grin.

Here i just wish to know from you all what do you think about this question that
WHO INHERITD BAPU GANDHI'S LEGACY?

And if we all Indians have , so why petty fights for his belongings ....

Let me tell you a story which I have heard from my father, and is one of my favourites.

There was a rich bussinessman..lets name him Lala Hiralal. One day he sat thinking about his children and what all he had provided for them. He called his accontant Munshi Khemchand, and asked for the whole account of his wealth . He told the munshi that he wanted to find out how much wealth he had, which he would be leaving for his children.
Munshi said 'Lalaji, there is nothing to worry as there is so much wealth , that it will suffice for your next seven generations'.

Upon hearing this Lalaji was disturbed, he said, 'Munshiji but what will happen to the generatios after that' , and thus Lalaji became very sad. Munshiji suggested to take the help of the local Pundit, Bhimsen.

In the evening both of them packed seeda( this is the collection of dry grains and cereals used for a meal. on special occasions this collection is donated to brahmins) and went to meet the pundit.
On their arrival the punditji made them sit and Lalaji offered the donations.
Bhimsen called out his wife and asked her if there was enough dry ration for the next meal. His wife said 'yes we have enough for the evening meal'.
Listening this Pundit ji said 'Lalaji, thank you, but as you see that we have enough for the evening , thus i would request you to donate this to somebody who does not have anything to eat.'
Lalaji is taken aback and when pundit asked about the reason for their visit, Lalaji said 'I had a problem but now that is solved. Now we will take your leave'
