My Dear Amma,

When I was 3 years old and I called my sister something bad you punished me. But now when I see a kid misbehave I realise why u did that to me.

I was 4 years old I cried loud on first day of my school and still you left me alone. Now when I see a child who can't go to school or struggle to pay their school fees I realise why you did that to me.

When I was five I refused to drink milk and you punished me by giving a whack. But now when I see a starving child I realise why you did that to me.

When I used to refuse going to the music classes you forced me to wake up early morning and practice. Now when someone appreciates my song I realise why you did that to me.

When I fight with my sister you used to whack both of us even if I were not wrong, And say "Orelse You would repeat that mistake". And now I realise why you did that to me.

I was watching my favorite TV shows non stop and you took off the cable. When I failed in my exams I realise why you did that to me.

When I finished my 10th grade you forced me to learn sewing which I considered unnecessary and thought that you spoiled my vacation. But I now when I sew my own things I realise why you did that to me.

You sent me far away for higher studies and sent me letters instead of emails so that I wont feel lonely. When I go through the hand written letters now, tears rolled down my cheeks. Achieved a masters degree now I realise why did you do that to me.

For 25 years you had been living for us day and night. You sacrificed your choice of food, cloth, likes and dislikes just for us. Tears roll down my cheeks when I write this to you but I still I want you to know that I love you flawless and seamless more than anyone in this world. Sitting in this stranger country all I have is the the sweet memories of the old times we spent together. Love you and miss you Amma.

I dont know how far everyones mother has played a crucial role in what they are now.. But if I am something now, then thats just because of my Amma.
I call my mom in India everyday. And there is only one person who asks everyday whether I had food or not, thats my Amma. There is only one soul who prays and thinks about their child's welfare in every second of their life thats their mom. And I pray for all those who are unfortunate to have a mom or lost their mom early.
