Hair Care II
Many do not apply oil properly. First let me come out with my points, then we can start discussing about it.
Some have the habit of washing the hair daily. I do, for one. For these, slight application of a little hair oil, with their fingertips on to their scalps will be enough.
For those who wash their hair only twice or thrice a week:
They can apply oil into the scalp the night before they have their hair wash. Massage your scalp nicely with the hair oil. You need not use oil liberally but a little just enough for your scalp, so that it does not get dry and brittle. You also have to watch your hair ends so that it is well oiled. Tie your hair up and wash it the next day morning with a mild herbal shampoo.
For those who wash their once a week:
You have to have hot oil massage every week to see that your hair is oiled and is hydrated. Part your hair and with cotton wool dipped in warmed oil, apply the whole of scalp and the hair till the ends. You have to use oil liberally. Then use your fingertips to massage your scalp nicely. Dip towel into hot water , squeeze it out of extra water and tie it up around your hair.
Change twice or thrice when the towel gets cold. Wash it after an hour atleast.
Dos and don'ts:
Please, please do not use drier to dry you hair.
Do not wet comb your hair.
Do not use bands on wet hair.
Let the hair open and dry out naturally. Or use a towel to wipe the extra water dripping.
Slightly rub the scalp to get the extra moisture out.
Do not use a comb for untangling the knots. If you have to, then use your fingers or a wide toothed comb.

Dear Latha,
I am really enjoying the way you address common health and beauty concerns and sincerely appreciate ur initiative. Keep it up!!!
I need a suggestion too. You can suggest based on ur experience and what u have learned from books and magazines and people.
Mine and my husband s hair is thin and dry. As for myself I fall into second category who washes her hair once in a week and do an oil massage with liberal amounts of coconut an olive oil. I dont do the towel thing, I ll include it now onwards...Back in India I used to get oil massage at parlor for 150 to 200 bucks, cheap and so effective. Here it is not possible. So I do it myself and for my husband too.
The problem is that it gets dry easily and hair fall is more than ever for both of us. What is allowed levels of hair fall per day ? 40 strands ? I havent counted, but see hair all around my bathroom. Hair fall has a lot to do with water. So willI have to endure it all through my stay in US ? My husband has balding history in his family, so I am afraid he ll lose easily given genetic reasons. I use garnier shampoo cum conditioner and he uses pantene. We suffer from dandruff too. It has reduced than before, by use to dandruff control shampoos, baby shampoo and vinegar and lemon usage, but keeps coming back.
Do you see any good remedy or something which I and my husband can try ?
Also I am looking for must haves in food to have healthy hair. I am evicting another post from you. hehe...How about ' Hair care -III"Posted 18th December 2007 at 12:31 PM by MeenLoch

Hi, Are you massaging your scalp the right way? It should be in the circular motions, just with your cushion pads of your fingers, without hurting the scalp. If you scratch your scalp too much for itching it'll make you lose hair.
My husband also had itching. Tulasi powder (dried leaves , powdered) helped him and now he doesn't have that itching. Just make a paste of the powder and apply on your husband's scalp. Leave it for some time say 15 minutes and then wssh it off. See if it helps.Posted 29th December 2007 at 09:08 PM by Eljaype

Hi Latha,
Why don't you try normal shampoo?
If you can get Biotique it would be good for her. Biotique shampoo is gentler. do not use anti dandruff shampoos.
Many are making that mistake. when they see a little powder like thing they think it is dandruff. It need not be, it can just be the shedding of the skin like we have through out our body.
We scrub and remove those from the skin but we do not do that for the scalp.
I'll come out with the next post about dandruff. OkPosted 29th December 2007 at 09:13 PM by Eljaype

Circular motions massage. That s what I do. I do not pressurize. I saw a thread on prabha v care thingie. i want to try some proper treatment if this does not stop.
I was recommnded Head and Shoulders Intensive care for controlling dandruff by a friend. For my husband now Pantene dandruff control is working fine.
Hope we come out of htis problem.
Let me knwo if you come across that data' how many hair strands are okay per day'Posted 4th January 2008 at 09:17 AM by MeenLoch
