Sodas and children
Are you children used to sodas? As parents what are your thoughts about your children taking sodas. If so, what happens to child's teeth?
Thanks,

| | Dr Niran, My kids and myself have come to know of the ill effects of consuming carbonated drinks that they erode all the calcium deposits leading to decay of the tooth and finally losing the tooth. Correct me if I am wrong. Hence, they do not take any aerated drinks........ but occassionally once a year or so they do indulge in consuming 100 to 200 ml. Is it OK. But in my family all have the habit of taking plain soda whenever there is a high acidity problem. They feel they get a relief. Is it safe to consume plain soda with lime n salt? |

| | Hi Dr Niran I know the ill effects of taking carbonated drinks,so I have limited the intake to just a can once in 15 days.My 2 year old daughter something insisted on having it.But i just give a sip or two. Also i jus wondeong she has got all the teeths. Is this reason.I started giving her after her 2nd birthday. Also as lalitha has written,in my family we have the habit taking plain soda with lime and salt after a heavy meal.Is it ok or plain soda also has ill effects on our health. |

| | Hello Babita, Sorry for the delay in response. I was not well. Please do not give your child any form of sodas because they damage the enamel of the teeth which is the outermost layer of the teeth. To put in simple terms.....they eat your teeth. To answer your question, any form of soda whether it is aerated drinks or soda with lime in it after a heavy meal is not good either. When used on a continuous basis they wash of the enamel. So in the long run, it will cause teeth sensitivity and decay. It's all in your hands now. Tip: Do not buy soda and keep it in the fridge. Try to substitute it with fruit drinks like tropicana lemonade or just plain lemon juice. Any questions... do write to me. Niran |
