| | Hi Niran Thanks for starting this on dental problems. As there is no much odors havn't used mouthwash any time. We are a family of 3 but non of us use mouthwash. I would like to know if it is really important to use mouthwash........... |

| | Dear Dr. Niran Mouthwashes only camouflage a deeper underlying problem like a bad stomach or an infection like a throat infection i guess. Dealing with the diet and maintaining good oral hyegine will certainly be the start . |

| | Thanks for your comments. Good to know that your family is doing well. It's not required to use mouthwash if you do not have bad odors. What i would suggest to you is brushing twice daily and warm salt water gargle once or twice a week to keep your gums healthy. Please do not use salt gargling if you have known high blood pressure. Also, mouthwash corrects only the superficial problem of bad odors. There are several reasons for a person to have bad odors. |

| | Thanks Niran How about also letting us know how to change and what to change to get rid of mouth odor -step by step so that it will help those that are still going thru it. I think most people would reach out to the mouth wash first to get rid of it. best wishes preethi |

| | Alright Preethi, I have some tips for those who have bad breath. From Dental Side: 1. Brush three times a day, that is morning, after lunch, and after dinner. 2. Brush your tongue gently. 3. Use of floss to get rid of food stuck in between your teeth. 3. Drinking water after you eat... for example after you have coffee, or any beverage, after snacking etc. 4. Clean your mouth after every meal, especially after a high protein diet. 4. Change your brush in regular intervals. Other than dental: 1. If you have any problems related to your stomach such as ulcer, hear burns, and other gastric problems, Sinus infections, consult your doctor. These may contribute to bad breath. 2. Healthy eating habits and drinking plenty of water will help tremendously. Hope this helps. Thanks, Niran |

| | Dear Dr, Thanks for your suggestion and feedback. I do not have bad odors but want to have my teeth cleaned as it is tainted and lot of build up is there. Our dentist advised to go for cleaning and he suggested to put a bleach cap for few hours and give a nice polish to that. Hearing the bleaching everything I am little sceptical. Is it really safe? How often cleaning can be done? Some say Cleaning often will lead to gums becoming loose, Is it so? Can you kindly clarify? Thanx in advance. |

| | Lalitha, The first step would be to get your teeth cleaned.Getting your teeth cleaned once in six months will not bother the gums, in fact that is the recommended protocol. After cleaning, if you still need the bleach u can go for it. The only pros to get the bleach done is- it whitens your teeth. But the cons are- u need to be watchful of what you eat or drink- like drinking coffee, coke, fanta will lead to staining of teeth. Sometimes your teeth may become sensitive after bleaching. My advise would be to get cleaning done and make it a routine to get it every six months. |
