The Beauty of Dawn!

Posted 3rd May 2008 at 02:34 PM by Devika Menon
"My Dear Children get up early in the morning and experience the unadulterated presence of GOD.
Talk to him through his various means ,Who needs a mediator then to be close to him?" These were the golden words of my grandmother, one that I heard when I was a kid, and now my mother says this ad verbatim to her grand kids.
I love the mornings, there is a certain divinity. One my day runs systematically and I do find the time to do that extra something! Two the nature is at its best to marvel at its beauty and awaiting the first golden rays is a blessing in itself!
Well there was a time when I was bogged down by work last year and missed the early mornings , due to my late nights and I was reprimanded and admonished by my friends of nature. Would you like to know what they said?. Well here it is:

Said the cuckoo bird to me
Hey where were you so far?
You’ve missed so much, you lazy bone!
When mornings opened ajar

Said the squirrel, climbing the tree
Hey what the hell did you do?
You missed the lovely breeze all while
And breathed that AC fume?

Said the trees as I opened the door
Oh dear you’ve missed so much
See the pretty flowers all around
And bees around them such

Said the pitter patter of the raindrops
Where my dear were you?
You missed the smell of earth around
And this lovely morning view

Said the grass as I stepped outside
Oh is that really you?
I waited so long to show you
This heavenly lovely morning dew

Oh God I missed so much in life
Me lazy lazy bone
From now its early to bed and early to rise
I’l wake at the crack of dawn.

They were so right I had missed a lot, but then I vowed never to miss it again so I am all up at the crack of dawn! Drinking its beauty as a elixir !

Love,
Devika

HI Devika

You have penned so well the serenity and the magic of the Dawn.
No other time of the day or night can match the freshness and the beauty of Dawn. It is as if the cuckoos, the squirrels, and the dewdrops act as our cheerleaders.

The True Cheer Leaders Indeed !!!

Dearest Devika ji,

An excellent write up. N number of tributes to mother nature too will not satisfy the thriving creations. Yes.

Nature in herself is a marvel beauty adorned with the rising sun, the chirruping birds, the squawking crows, the fresh smell, the dew touch, the color splash butterflies, the feathery touch of the bloom, the gliding clouds, ... the BREATH of NATURE should be smelled and thus she runs in our blood !!!

Hats off !!

Regards with Love
RamyaVaradharajan

NB: More than adorning the Mother Nature, you had hit a valid point of "Early to bed and early to rise" !! Thank you Devika ji.. It was thoughtful too and not merely an admiration !!

Dearest Ramya,

Yes Dear implementing the early ned and rise technique has disciplined my life besides providing time to do that little extra everyday!
I guess disciplining is what God wished when he created dawn!

Hi Sudha,

Wow I would consider myself very lucky if my blog has inspired you to wake up early! All the best to you!!
I love rising at dawn and stepping on to the grass. The air smells divine and you are inspired by the birds who are already on with their duties of chirping, cawing , waking up all the sleepy heads!

Ende Mole!

Pratha:kalam is something which is precious in our everyday life according to our scriptures. It is also called Brahma muhurtham. That should be the hour of quietitude since we have just got up fresh after deep sleep. All our worries will be at their lowest levels & optimism will rule high in our minds.
The beauty of the rising sun kindles freshness and hope in us. We cannot help identifying ouurselves with Mother Nature.
We both are early risers and never miss out on marvelling at the beauty and divinity of dawn. So, we decided to name our daughter Usha!
Lovely post, Mole!
Love,
Chithra.

Another gem. So the beauty of the dawn is making us feel guilty to say what all we have missed, and the advise go to bed early and wake up early so that next morning you will not miss them.
Well written..........
Devika keep the collection of all the poems and publish a book of yours, with these beautiful poems.

Awesome Devika! Well, what else can be expected from you?! J

I looooooooove mornings. The really early mornings when everyone else at home is asleep. Like dear Chithra said, that is the time for quitetitude. And for me, that is “my” time that charges me up for the day. I love to go for a walk by myself, admire the nature around, listening to the birds chirp, come home make me a cup of hot tea and then slowly start thinking about the workday ahead. That’s my ideal start for the day. For the last several months thou’ my schedule probably reflects yours from last years! I have been up until very late for office work so I have been missing beautiful mornings. Your blog prompted me to try hard to get it back again. May be in the next few weeks.

Yes I missed the mornings last year for a few months and what a loss! But now I am an early riser no matter how late I sleep .I catch up on the sleep during my siesta, which is very important!
Mornings are my energy boosters, pumping me with abundant energy to sail through the entire day!
I am soooo glad SS youre planning to restart your rendevous with sunrise. And if this post inspired you, I am blessed!

chechi,
what a beautiful one...used to be an early riser in my student days....after marriage, with dh's job often making him come home late, dinner and sleep became very delayed...i hardly see early mornings now...your poem made me relive the joys of dawn...when everything is fresh, and the mild rays of the sun start caressing the earth....nothing better than taking a walk at dawn and savouring the sweet sounds of birds, and morning dew on the leaves.....hmmm, i thought i should take a print out of your poem and put it some where in my bedroom, so that i would be reminded to hit the sack early and get up early the next day...

was just reminded of the lines "pulariyile panimalarin pathinezhagaannu..."

Dear Sowpar,

Thankyou so much for writing in.
Yes I understand sometimes with responsibilities and commitments its difficult to always follow certain routine. It happened to me last year when I had to work a lot and my schedule went haywire and I was on a guilt trip bcoz I wasnt able to welcome the sun , but then I soon got back to routine and felt a big burden off my shoulder. I really love the mornings. Mornings with MS Subhalaxmi, and then Lata Mangeshkar with Ram Ratan Dhan Payo! I love to listen to this !
Glad to know you enjoyed a few nostalgic moments!!
