Exercise

What are the different kinds of excuses that we can come up with which would sound legitimate and acceptable. ? I am in need of excuses as nothing seems to be acceptable by family as a valid excuse. My family tells me to have this as a priority. Not that I mind to do exercise. Usually I love to go walking outdoors and can walk quite a few miles. Maybe not in a fast pace but at an easy talking pace. Nothing more than having company to walk with. But now that it is getting cold outside I might be feeling an itsy bitsy lazy (oops I said it) to get up an go. How many of you have a routine with exercises and how do you keep up the routine? Something always seems to come up and then exercise gets put on the back burner. I dont get it how everything can be done . So I cut off my exercise time so as to finish the other work. Which my family say No No . First finish exercise and then do the other work. But the other works always require so much time and effort. So I am guilty of putting Exercise on the back burner. So I'm hoping with bated breath that you will help me come up with good excuses.

Hi Chithra - I agree with you that exercise does take a back seat when something has to be done for the family. I am not going to give you excuses but possibly the opposite!! Here is what I have done in the past and am doing now. When my daughter was young - around 5 or so, I joined a gym and they had a day care - so I started taking classes and took my daughter with me - worked out great - was in good shape. This worked for a few years - then we moved and she was in middle school which meant I was chauffering her, started working full time and hence no time for gym - this went on well into high school. I used to walk whenever I could. Then joined the gym again - it was not very regular - but I tried to go whenever I could. Since my daughter was driving, I did not have to take her around anymore. Now - she is off to college - and I got all the time in the world - I am at the time 3 or 4 times a week. I know it is a bit difficult when you have things to do for your family - but if you join a class, I think you will be more motivated to go - at least that is how I am. OK - so no more excuses - I dont know if you work - but if you are not, go during the day! I will be your online workout buddy - what do you say??

No one could have written better than you. Totally agree and have done a complete turnaround. Its just that something or other just keeps coming up and its easier to push exercise to the back.

Another possibility AC, is to look for a 24 hour gym. I don't mean that one should go in the middle of the night but if they are open all the time then there is no excuse to say oh the gym will be closed now, i will go tomorrow. This tomorrow never comes. As Shobana said having a work out buddy definitely motivates and keeps one to stick to a regular schedule.

Blondie - you are right about 24 hr gym. Actually I belong to one - and it is useful - sometimes if I cannot go to a class, I go and workout late - then I come home, jump in the shower and then I sleep like a baby!!

I have the same problem, I postpond my exercise regime everyday on one pretext or other. Now the excuse is rain. But I have a treadmill and static cycle at home. I simply could not bring myself to do the exercise. Sometimes I feel hungry just when I plan to do, or that I feel tired, or I have to read a mag., or I have to watch a programme or blah blah blah.........

Thats a good suggestion. For the convenience. I have found a buddy in my husband. He's more like a drill sergeant when it comes to my exercise. Mornings he wakes me up with steaming coffee and gets me up and moving. Evenings even if its late he gets me there to exercise. will keep u posted as to progress.

Dear Varloo
We are members of the local family Y, It has this neat indoor walking track. really nice. In summer its airconditioned and winter its kept warm. My husband and I walk together so its an added bonus. Nowadays its more like a whole family outing to goto the Y. we are probably the only family that considers this an outing and are pleased with it. Maybe I should add that on the way back my husband tries to sneak and get us pastries but I usually dont have it and they enjoy the break. keep movin...
