I spent a long time this morning in front of the mirror to groom my hair. I have curly hair so it does take me time to comb and get it managed. And I was very happy with my result looking at the mirror I thought I looked quite presentable. So I got ready for an appointment I had at my doctor's office and arrived there on time and as I was about to open the door, I happened to glance at the darkened glass doors which showed a reflection of MEEEE !!
Who is this ? was all I could think of . I completely forgot to open the door and I stood gaping at my reflection. No this could not be me!!Instead of the well groomed person that stepped out of my house, now my HAIR was in total disarray. There were spikes all over my head. My hair seemed to have taken a mind of its own and must have thought of touching the air around it in full glee !! It was practically dancing and waving itself with grand abandon. My shocked face also added to the gory picture that I quickly stopped looking and opened the door and went to the reception desk. The receptionist must be a good actress since after a peek at me she busied herself in front of the computer and threw questions at me sideways. I just did not get it .. So I excused myself and rushed to the bathroom to do DAMAGE Control !!! How could this have happened? I had spent so much time in trying to get every strand in order and had combed over and over to have the SLEEK look?? Atleast I had the sense to always carry a damage control KIT with me, which consisted of a comb, and a rubber band. So then I swiftly proceeded to Comb and swipe my hair into the said rubberband. Since I have only shoulder length hair I did look a little askew. I then walked into the reception area to be seated till they called for me.
This gave me a chance to look around and BOY what did I see ..but many ladies seated all around me and did they look great or what?? They ALL seemed to have ALL their strands of hair in PLACE.. not one out of place.. I could only sit and recollect how ALL my stands were so very well out of place....what did I possibly do wrong..I did follow all the instructions to the "T". I have even taken tips from the Hair sub forum as to straightening hair and I had even asked others what I thought were intelligent questions!!!
This was ofcourse not the first time this has happened to me..Anytime I spend trying to groom my hair and setting it all in place, it looks absolutely PERFECT when I leave home. But when I reach wherever I am going it looks the exact opposite..all askew and not a strand in the place where I had left it..Why me?? I have now convinced myself its just me and possibly cannot happen to anyone else..Since everyone seems to have all their hair in one place and in the perfect settings possible!! Even if I were to tie everything in a "bun" they somehow manage to slip out and go their way when I go outside.
Has it ever happened to any of you or is it just me who has not got the nitty gritty's of hair management??

| | yes chitra, i started sweating a lot if i have longer hair,i used to have hip length and that to too thick to plait easily, with age i lost the bulky ness and had a rat's tail which i felt i can do without so when i had the freedom to do it, i chopped it real short so i can be relieved from sweating and drooling over the side of the face. previously friends used to be angry what lovely hair how could you do this and so on, later when i told them the problem, all subsided, and now i dont mind a good cut every month...yeah like men. sunkan |

| | Dear AC, Am a person in contrast to u in case of the length of hair.I have pretty long hair and i simply love it.But as far as coming to comb it and staying as it is i join with u.My hair never stays as such and happily comes out when i dont want it to do so.Adhilum nan thalaikku kulithu vittal en mudikku kondattam dhan.whenever am back from school my mom used to ask me "nalla thana pona schoolukku? en eppidi nu?' i used to jus laugh at her.She asks this because till my school end she used to comb my hair.Thalayai seevi viduravangalukku dhane kashtam theriyum. But ippo its all my fight with hair after moving to US.nice blog.......... |

| | Dear AC, I think all this trouble is because you have a curly hair. But for people like me with long straight hair or wavy hair it happens only during those days when I shampoo my hair or take a proper oil both, you have to look at me when my hair dries, (I look too scary). Also when in school, my mom used to oil my hair almost daily and before she finishes of combing and plaiting the second side my first side looks like as if I had been walking through a storm. And my father used to comment, Veppenaiya oothi thecha kooda iva thalaimudi adangathu; and whenever I do some mischief and immediatly had to have my hair combed then the usual comment I get is un thalai mudiyum unna madiriye adanga mattenguthu par. Now that I have the same problem with my daughter's hair too, and I too say that comment from time to time when she have a good fight with her brother. |

| | Hi AC, Nice topic discussing about our hairs.. I too had hairs till the hip. Not curly...but the problem was its thickness. My mom used to spent a lot of time combing it. The texture of hair is erractic...some hairs are very thick... elders used to say panni mudi(pigs hair....do pigs have thick hair? ..don't no ). Some are very thin....Whenever I have hair bath.....I will fight with it to get it dry.It takes usually six hr for that. I donot prefer dryer...though I used it initially..they give me headaches. Now I have conviniently cut it till shoulders length. Though the length is reduced, still the duration of drying is the same . And when I go out on the day I have my hair bath..it will be as if I have just woken up.Every hair out of place![]() bye |

| | Yes Chitra, curly plus thickness will get you that problem..unruly hair. I also had like that. I should thank the beautician ( !!!! ) I think who brought it to half the amount of what I had. But may be because of applying black henna regularly I think it has straightened out a bit, my curliness have come to waviness, albeit controllable. Thanks for that.. but even now I have enough to keep me combing and trying to control... |

| | Dear AC, Now a days no ammas to groom my hair (ammas I mean here both my mom and my mil after effect of a thread is calling MIL amma peer pressure). My mom used to plait my hair even now whenever I visit my parents. My mom's comment is I dont groom my hair. My MIL too plaited my hair, and she loved doing it as she had never got chance to do it to her daughter. She being a teacher she had to rush to school and so grandma had to take care of SIL. Yes I dont groom my hair like I do my daughter's. Though I give it a oil bath once in 15 days and a shampoo bath once in 15 days. Let me see if I get a chance to take a photo of me after my shampoo bath and post it for your reference. You will def take a print of it and will use it as a Drishti Bommai for your house. |

| | Waiting for a Dhrishti Bommai to come..since already one big poosinikai is there could use one more for the other side of entry..Since we are always caught up with so many things going on our own selves take a back seat..and hair is right there..some of the american women and girls I know will never step out to even get the mail or newspaper without being PERFECTLY groomed.. |

| | Count me too AC That was a wonderfull day where all girls stand for few more minutes befor mirror. As you guess its not a eve it was the day when I took my photo in studio.I stood befor the mirror and will do a perfect smile. Then I will close my eyes and smile and open and see whether I have smiled like a precious attempt ,if so then the smile was stroked in my list .Then comes my eye liner ,my mom got a good chance on that day.Whatever she yells I should smile since it may damage my eye liner. If I am perfect I will strike out my eyeliner in the list.Third comes my chain and duppatta ,usually it will hung some where else in my old snaps.Fourth is my hair style I look GREAT?!?# when I have a head bath.If I applies oil thats it the photo section is cancelled for that day.In oil applied hair style my head looks flat with no buffy look and I would be the perfect village girl. |

| | Hilarious description lady !!! I know u ll be like, 'inga naa avastha padaren, nee sirikkariya ? '...My mother has the same problem. Extremely curly and unmanageable hair. Now it has fallen and hence bearable. Instead of trying to straighten, enjoy the curls and volume they provide. How many people yearn for getting thos natural curls !!! They spend so much money behind it ! See what hairstyles suit for curly hair and try them. COntinue carrying ur 'Damage control kit'.. You do like seeing urself in mirror again and again like many women don't you ? Secretly women enjoy adjusitng make-up and hair style every now and then. If that 's not true in your case, tie scarf or head band when u are traveling or use a good conditioner to set ur hair. I also read in some magazine that, u can apply some mild moisturizer to control some strands to be in their place. But when it's ALL of "out of control", ...mmmm.... I am imagining............. !!! |

| | Dear AC, Most indians do not have curly hair. What they have is springy hair(i.e springs twisted out of shape, take a spring and really strech it out, what results is indian curly hair). If one takes the effort to set one's hair into actual curls (i.e ringlets), the problem vanishes. This I am saying from experience. My daughter like her dear nanamma has 'curly hair'. Every other day she used to punish this hair into total submission by ironing it out (literally). Until she learned from a friend of hers how to deal with it. Result now is when she decides to go natural(which is often), she has this lovely curly hair that is so soft to touch and also curly at the same time with out being like an afro when in the open or at the end of the day. Yes do treat yourself to that new gadget which also nourishes and cleans your hair while giving you that perfect oriental sleek and silky hair. We (me & my daughter both have it ) love it. we vouch for it |
