May You Live Long, Sharada! Happy Birthday!

My short stories and serials are full of Sharadas. But in the world of reality there is only one Sharada, the one and only Sharada Prahalada Rao.

She is celebrating her birthday today – 18^th of August.

The one quality that distinguishes Sharada from the rest of the crowd is that she calls a spade a spade, if possible in less than one word.

Her criticism often stings, but it is not the sting of a bee but the sting of a healing injection. The initial pain, the hurt subsides soon; but the healing effect lasts a life time.

Though this quality has prevented many from understanding her real worth, she persists in her own way, in her own inimitable style. She is such a looming presence that often before I correct the final drafts of my IL posts, I think of her, and even attempt to see my writing from her point of view and pre-empt her criticism.


If Brevity is the soul of the wit, then her wisdom is most eminently soulful. Her posts, mails are just a few lines long, contain a few words, but convey a lot.
With that kind of style when she dwells on science and technology she is mistaken for a scientist.

Sharada, may your name sake the Great Sharadamba, the presiding deity of Sringeri bless you and yours with health, happiness, peace and prosperity. May all your desires be fulfilled.

My worst critic and my ardent fan, to greet you on this happy day I have no better option than to borrow your own beautiful words,
