Arrow Re: Bodhon

This thread has a lot of information regarding Durga Puja. There are many interesting aspects of Durga Puja which is a part of the culture. I am interested in Durga Puja and I guided my daughter to this thread. Youngsters must know about these aspects of the Puja. I have a small query.
Can anyone tell me if the significance of "aparajita puja" on Dashami the last day of the Durga Puja? This year I saw the priest tying small sprigs of aparajita on the wrists of devotees, both male and female. This happened just before the ritual of "Pratima Baran".

Default Aparajita Puja on Dashami

The word “aparajita” means “invincible”. The rituals of Durga Puja are rounded off with Aparajita Puja, which is s special worship for eternal victory. It is conducted on the day of Bijoya Dashami.

As Mallika rightly says, after the Aparajita Puja, small sprigs of Aparajita trees are tied to the wrists of the devotees present. This is believed to instill a sense of courage and victory in the minds of the devotees, throughout the coming year.

Bijoya Dasahami is also known as Aparajita Dashami. Another puja called “Shami Puja” is also performed on this day.

My mother brings the blessed sprigs of Aparajita from the priests and ties them on our wrists after the puja gets over on Dashami morning.

I would like to add to Piya Gupta's reply. It is said that after her victory in the battle with Mahisasur, Devi Durga wore a sprig of Aparajita plant. Therefore, as part of the Durga Puja celebrations, Aparajita puja is done every year. Devotees wear the sprig of Aparajita plant because it is blessed by Devi Durga and bestows good health and good fortune on the wearer.
I think one of the names of Devi Durga is Aparajita. In many of rituals in Hindu religion, I have seen the importance attached to the commonest plant or even a dry straw. While performing Tarpan, we have to wear a ring of dry straw. Howsoever mighty a man was in his life, after his death, Tarpan would have to be performed with a humble dry straw.
