The Bhadli fair in Jharkhand takes place in a spot called Itkhori. There is an old temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. The Bhadli fair takes place on the day of Makar Sankranti.
On the day of the fair, people from all over Jharkhand and the surrounding regions gather for the celebrations. The origin of this fair and the religious gathering is still not known.
Itkhori is a taluk headquarter located at the confluence of Vaksha and Mahane rivers. The town is located at Chatra District, fourteen kilometers south of Chauparan in Jharkhand. Itkhori is a pilgrimmage for Shaivites, Vaishnavites, Jains and Buddhists alike.
A few years back, I was fortunate enough to visit the Bhadli Mela at Itkhori. The place has beautiful scenic beauty. It is a perfect picnic spot too. This fair, held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, is a significant religious festival of Itkhori.
The town is connected to Chatra by road. Chatra is the administrative headquarters of the district. The nearest airport is located at Gaya, in Bihar. The Kodarma Railway Station is the nearest railway point. I went by train and hence remember the station vividly.
Have you ever heard of Bhadli Mela before? Can you share more about this Mela?
