| | Madai Madai is a festival, which is popularly celebrated by an old tribal community known as Gonds. This festival is meant to meet relatives settled in the different villages throughout the state. It is also a time for purchasing yearlong provisions for the daily life. Respect is paid to the tribal Goddess by sacrificing a goat underneath the holy tree of the village. The nights during Madai are meant for unrestrained fun and merriment. The members of the tribe indulge in non-stop dancing and drinking. If you want to attend this festival and enjoy its true colors, you can visit Narayanpur in Bastar. |

| | Re: Madai I have seen this festival being celebrated. The Madai festival is one of the unique attractions of Bastar. It is held in the different villages extending from Mandla to Bastar. Madai is a festival dear to the Gonds who come from far off places to meet family and friends and to purchase a year’s provision of essentials like cooking oil and salt. Though Madai is organized in many villages, the most popular Madai is that of Narayanpur in Bastar. Observed in the third or fourth week of February, it is a day of great religious significance. Can you share more about Madai? | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | |
