| | Guru Purnima Guru Purnima is the birthday of the Adi-Guru Sage Ved Vyasa. It is celebrated on the full moon day (purnima) in the month of Ashad i.e.July-August. This year Guru Purnima falls on 07 July 2009. Sage Ved Vyas has written the four Vedas, the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavat Gita. Ved Vyasa is therefore regarded as the Guru of Gurus or the Adi Guru. The day is important for all those who have taken “deeksha” from their spiritual guru. It is a tradition to worship sage Ved Vyasa alongside one’s spiritual guru on the occasion of Guru Purnima. |

| | Re: Guru Purnima Hi Joyshree Guru Purnima marks the beginning of the period of Chaturmas or “four months” begins from this day. The ensuing four months are rainy and sadhus prefer to stay at one place and devote their time to meditation and studying scriptures. On Guru Purnima day, all spiritually inclined people perform Vyasa Puja followed by worship of their Guru or spiritual preceptor. Many people honour saints and monks by feeding them and giving them money and other gifts. Others worship the feet of their spiritual Guru, or his image by offering flowers, fruits and lighting incense sticks. It is also common to fast or take only fruits the whole day. |

| | Re: Guru Purnima This Guru Purnima, I attended a unique celebration organized by the Saccidananda Society in Kolkata. The celebrations were organized at Kalamandir Auditorium located at Theatre Road, Kolkata on 7th July, 2009. The noted TV personality Satinath Mukherjee compered the proceedings. The program started with Guru Vandana. After that, noted singers like Lily Haldar, Pranab, Saoni Mitra and Kedar Bodas sang divine songs revealed to Sri Sri Babathakur. This was followed by a speech by Sri Sri Babathakur on the topic of Nitya –Advaita vaad. At the end of the function, devotees offered floral tributes to the Guru Paduka. |
