Thanks for your list, it was interesting. I also keep a 'lucky bamboo' in my house. I think acc to feng Shui, it is for growth of family, in other words longevity too.

The incident of rats eating bamboo in Assam- there was a popular Tamil novel by Vaasanthi,I think,many years ago on that. It was made into a roaring Mallu movie with Suhasini.

Jothi, thanks for the list. I dint know that Bamboo flowers are considered a symbol of longevity. Maybe its becos. the bamboo plant lives long, some species upto a 100 years too.

Varloo, you are right that in the Indian context, flowering of Bamboo is considered an ill omen. Especially in North Eastern States. I am posting a new thread in Gen. Discussion forum about Bamboo Flowering, because I dont want to spoil this thread with anything grim.
