| Hi Presci, Thanks for bringing this to notice. myself had an experience with my daughter locked inside one time---during her 'crib years' but she didn't shout. Luckily the door can be opened from outside with a pin. I don't know that and I got help from the management and got it open. I can understand what that couple must have gone through! sriniketan |

| Hi, these problems should be foreseen and the builder should make provisions for such things. We did not go for a flush door with automatic lock just for this reason, we have 2 doors for main entrance. My neighbour had had this problem many times and they open the door thro the window. technology is okay but builders should have a thought about when kids will be there, they should be safe. My FIL actually measured my son's head and built the balcaony railings smaller than that. Now even babies' head would not go into that and so it is safe. |

| Hi friends, It happened to me just 2 days back. My 3 yr old son was inside our bed room, and as and when he close the door, the door closed automatically,. Actually it is not having the automatic lock system. The door have handles on both sides, may be some thing wrong in the parts inside, the door locked automatically. Atlast after 45mts, we just break the door (handle part) . Thank god , for giving me such a brave boy, he doest cry and just listen what ever we are telling him. Of course, I had a talk with him, for that whole 45 mts. Be carefull, Doors having handle on both sides may also get lock, some thing wrong in system.

| something similar happened to me about 8 months back... but twist in the story i was locked out in the balcony. the windows in germany are a bit different... we can open them fully or partly (i do the latter to let in fresh air and at the same time safe). same with balcony door. i was in my pyjamas and went out to bring dried clothes. my boy pulled down the handle (he was 2 yrs 2 months then) and locked the door. i instructed him from outside how to open and he tried but it was beyond his height and strength to push it upwards. the kitchen window (partially open) opens out into the balcony. but i couldn't put my hands in and open it to enter the house. my boy thought i was playing some game with him and was laughing. after about 1/2 hr i got really scared (he wasn't, btw!). luckily our neighbours downstairs are retired people and the gentleman came out (their's is ground floor so they have small garden instead of balcony). i told him my situation and he had to call the fire-service to rescue me. but surprisingly i didn't panic at all (believe me i'm not a bold character) and the fire personnel also said i was lucky that my child didn't cry and that would have made the situation worse. they opened the kitchen window and entered the apt. after all this drama my son says 'hello, maama... amma and I are playing'. first thing i did after this incident was to remove all keys from all doors (even the bathroom has key to lock) and always take my cell phone and house key even if i go to the balcony:) Latha |

Its very scary to read all the stories. I have a friend, she is a running home day care and whenever she wants to go out & talk to some one or wants to go to someones house she will lock all the kids inside the house, she once told me this and I got scared but I don't know any of these kids parents, So I don't know how to inform. Especially there was a fire in the apartment building next to us & I just want to know whether some one was hurt & I wanted to help someone but I don't know any one but she has lot of friends there so I asked her whether she know anything about the fire & she said "I just locked the kids inside & went to c the people whose houses were (little bit coz fortunately fire was in the empty apartment) burned" I was shocked coz how can she leave this little kids inside and go.I will always tell this to my DH, I don't know what else to do. Hope Kids stay safe. DSrini |

| Hi, This really sounds scaring, i once along with my 3 yr old daughter (thankfully with me) were outside, the door got locked from inside, i had forgotten my keys at home, it was 10pm at night, husband was away, i went downstairs, called the security and from him, got the number of carpenter, i had to beg him to come at that late time, he had to break the door lock completely....That night I had to sleep alone with my daughter with a big fat hole in my door. next morning gor the lock replaced.Rachna |
