    Hi
My son is 8 months old and presently he s on formula milk ( Nan-2).
I'm just wondering how long should I continue this.Should I use NAn 2 till he's 1 year old?
If at all I need to start whole milk shall I use pasterised packet milk either Heritage or Vijaya as available in Hyderabad or buffalo milk form doodhwala?
My MIL says packet milk is good as it is purified but my mom says doodhwala's milk is good nothing else is added in it other than water ofcourse.........
M totally confused but want to know whats the exact protocol......
    Regards,
    Sunny's Mom

    Hi

I think you can start using packet milk from 9th month onwards. I dont know about formula milk because i havent used it for my son. But i would suggest you to give packet milk - Heritage than the doodhwalla's milk.

    Thanks
    jay

Not before the first year! In formula, the cow milk protein is modified a little and can be tolerated by those who are not sensitive to it. I know some moms use milk for cooking porridge, not straight to drink. As a drink, the indian academy of paediatricians advises, cow's milk can be introduce after the first year.

    Hi Sunny,

I think you can start on packet milk - pasteurised and homoginised. I started on packet milk from the fifth month with no issues. We only add 3 -4 pcs of garlic in the milk to evade gas troubles. Milk needs to be boiled at a certain temp to kill the bacteria this has been taken care in packet milk, but buffaloes milk wouldn't advise.
DD didn't like the artificial taste of formula and had to switch to something natural.

    Hi,

It better to start after 1 year, i don't have idea when Doctors in India suggest it.

But here in U.S 95% doctors recommend whole milk only after 1 year...the reason is same as Our friend Tikka mentioned...

    Hi

I would suggest you wait till one year. Its advisable to start whole milk only after the baby is one year old. Reason has been mentioned by Tikka. This is what my pead in India as well in US has suggested.
