he takes water through sipper but not milk.. ..........I want to wean........

is it too early to try with a straw bottle............pls post ur valuable suggesstions

thanks in advance

Dheepa,
Does he BF only once in the day then? Have you tried BFing more often during the day? Does he refuse BM as well as formula during the day? Is there some particular reason you need to wean him so early? An 8 mnth old is a very effiicient feeder and doesnt need to feed for more than 10 mins max (in most cases). That is more than sufficient time to get all the BM he needs. Unless there is some urgent reason to get him onto formula/cow's milk right now it will be easier for you and him to continue BFing him and start weaning after he is atleast 10 mnths old. If you have to wean then maybe you could try asking someone else to give him the formula - that may work.

Vanathi.

My suggestion would be to wait until he completes 10 mnths (9 mnths at the earliest, best is 1 year, 10 mnths is when I started) and then start substituting one BF at a time with cows milk from a sipper. You can do it slowly ie. one feed substitution every 3-4 weeks so that by 12-14 mnths your son is drinking cows milk 3 times/day and at the same time stop all night feeds (substitute those with water). The quantity of cows milk should be around 150-200 ml each feed so that he ends up taking 400-500 ml in total. Adding sugar or not is up to you. This is what i am doing at present and so far its working well for me.

Vanathi.
