For constipation you can also buy the dried prunes ( That way you can use them when needed). Boil them with apples or boil them alone . Blend the soft prune and sever by itself or you can give with apple sauce. This was really effective for my baby.
On the other hand for loose stool the BRAT diet does work.. I have also heard Barley is a good counteractor for loose stool and been boiling that with dates and apples and giving that to baby.
More than anything else keep baby hydrated with pediatlyte if they have loose stool. You can also make your own pedialyte solution at home by putting one spoon salt + 1 spoon sugar in 4 cups of water.

I am a HUGE fan of prunes now. They are a miracle poop kickers!

Meeta generally they will keep the dried prunes in the dry fruit section, and you could get that in loose as well as in packet, i buy 1 kg and keep it in the freezer section in this way the prunes last longer, and a simple way to prepare prune juice is soak 3-4 pieces in a hot water, which will make the prunes more softer and then mash it with clean hands and then strain it using a filter, give only 60 ml/day as prunes are generally sweet, moreover most of the babies like prune juice, if you do not want to undergo all this process, you may get GERBER strained prunes, which comes in a small bottle

Dear Ladies

Like Dallascw said somewhere,I think this thread needs to be broken into 4-6 mnths,7-8 mnths and so on....it is very difficult to find out what foods to give a particular mnth old baby since the thread is so long.

My second one has just completed 5 mnths.I have given him rice cereal with formula /water and ragi till now(I started after he completed 4 mnths)once a day and have started giving him about 3 oz formula at bedtime, otherwise he is BFed only. Now I want to start off with something else and want to add some variety. For Tarun around this time,I was giving him solids twice a day(since he started solids at 2 1/2 mnths itself) and I used to give him boiled mashed apples, bananas, biscuits soaked in milk,a little juice, idlies soaked in milk etc. Here doctors say not to give milk till baby is one year old.Sometimes,I feel using formula instead of plain milk alters the taste of certain foods,so I am in a fix.

Can you ladies suggest some more variety for a 5 mnth old.

Hi Sunitha,
Maybe you could start fruit/vegetable purees - apple, banana, avocado, chikku(if you get it), carrots, beetroot, sweet potato, papaya, pears are all ok for 5 mnths. Thats what I was giving Aadhu at that age.

Vanathi.

I have attached a WORD doc so that we cud add our diet plans in each doc accordingly, wil that be ok for our reference?

If this is ok, we need to make a word doc for different age group...

Also if its possible we cud create it as a new thread so that its easily identifiable by everyone!
Attached Files
File Type: doc Diet for infants age 4-6 mos.doc (10.5 KB, 25 views)

San - what exactly do you want to add to the word doc? A list of foods that can be given for that age or a meal plan (what we are giving with times and quantities) or recipes or what?

Vanathi.
