This is the recipe I follow:

Batter: 4 cups par boiled rice, 1 cup urad dal + 1 tsp methi seeds + 1 handful thin poha. Soak and grind. Allow it to ferment overnight.

Making idli: I use idli maker. If you don't want to use idli maker then you put the batter in small katoris/bowls and steam it.

For soft idli's it is better to use room temperature batter.

    Steel box for storing?
I prepare batter once a week. I make idli's 2-3 times, dosa and oothappam.

i suggest you add urad dal and idly ravva in 1:1 or 2:1 ratio. it is rather soft and healthier, easy on their tummy also.

Hey u can make idli without idli maker

take a bowl and pour water in that at the edge of the bowl u tie a thin clean cloth with the help of rubber band on that cloth put the batter as bigger idli and put the bowl on heat

after sometime u wil get idlii rather it is healthier than idli

we call it as aavti kudumu(u can say type of Momo :))

But it is very healthier for kidsssss We used to give it for my kid sinche she is 8 mnths

even now also when she is not able to digest food in evenings we will give this big idli as it will be digested very easily

to make them eat you can take combination of rasam or sugar with it
