Cerelac for 2.5mnths old baby ?

    Dear all,

    My niece is 2.5mnths old. As of now, my sis is breastfeeding her. She cries all night n day.. Past 2-3 days she started giving her cerelac (cerelac stage 1). The baby has stopped crying n sleeps at night now. One of my friends who has a 3 yr old son suggested to wait until the baby is 6 months old as 3 months is too early to give cerelac. She says, her digestive system is not ready.
    please Suggest.

    Hi Tara,
    My Pediatrician also used to advise to start solids only around 6 months of age.
    The digestive system and the swallowing ability of the baby would not be mature yet.
    Your friend can check with her paed. and start on any formula if necessary.

    DONT give food to baby that young.. she will have problems..

    please tell her to give formula milk if the baby is hungry. PLEASE

    Please DO NOT feed a breastfeeding baby under the age of 6 months(atleast 5) anything else.Their digestive systems are very small and not developed to digest anything other that breastmilk or formula.

    please stop giving cerelac...the digestive system matures only when the baby is around 4.5-5.5 months of age..thats y docs ask u to wait till that...if the baby cries all the time y dont u take her to a paed and get her checked? does she have colic? thats the first thing u should do before giving food on ur own will...formula milk is a good solution if the mother does not have enough milk...but it is not wise to do things before seeking dr's opinion..so please get her checked first...

    As others suggested stop cerelac first. Start Formula Milk if your sister dont have enough supply. wait atleast for 4 months.

    As all said, its too early to start cerelac and please as per doc advice feed her.. may be formula is good at this age.
