Hi Meghu,
According to our system of medicine ghee is good for health. But it doesnt fit our lifestyles now to have more ghee. Initially in days of our grand mom they dint ve much choice in cooking oils. Butter ,ghee, vanaspati, gingely oil, coconut oil, groundnut oil, palm oil were the ones that were vailable. Outta which vansapati n butter r ruled out due to their harmful effects like causing cancer n too fatty respectively. The groundnut oil n palm oil r also less healtheir compared to the options they had. So in the older day cooking they mostly used gingely oil n ghee which are moderately healthy. But now lifestyles have changed. We don do as much physical work as they do. Remember they washed clothes by ahnd took water from river r well, reared cows n other animals, cleaned houses n swabbed them by sitting ( not vaccuaming r mopping with mop sticks) made all the festival preparations. they used to grind rice flour n all for diwali sweets at home. Now our lifestyle has changed to numerous human n mechanical helps n more fats foods n less walking n exercises. At this present state of life ghee is not healthy due to the limited exercise we ve. I would suggest u to use oils rich in PUFA n MUFA(they r fatty acids). The choices I suggest r as follows
1. Canola oil, olive oil, sunflower oil ( canola has more pufa sunflower has more mufa n olive oil s gud in both.
2. Ranked second is gingely oil, corn oil, n saff oil
3. coconut n groundnut oils
4. margarine
5. vanaspati , butter n ghee
its always better to use two three oils in day to day cooking as pufa mufa balance ll be there instead of using only one oil.
Like use canola r sunflower oil for deep frying stuff, olive oil for tempering stuff n gingely oil for seasoning
If u use a variety of oils like this the balance of fatty acids ll be maintained.
And restrict use of ghee butter n coconut oils to the stuff which really need them.
I am advising all these to fairly healthy ppl with no bp sugar n active lifestyles.
Or else stick with sunflower canola n olive oils with touch of gingely oil now n then
all others r best taken in little amounts.
Hope I cleared the doubt fully
Regards,
CC

Hi Fresh hope,
U dint state abt the otehr health conditions of ur father. So am assuming he s fairly healthy with no other problems except this dry throat. Dry throat may be due to a lot of factors like mouth breathing or loss of body fluids or less mucosal secretions in mouth. Also might be due to old age as it gets ur glands to go dry r shrink n reduce their production.
I am giving u a simple home remedy. Try this n get back with other details abt health conditions too if u ve more doubts.
1. Take one tsp of butter plain n mix it with little sugar n mix with fingers till it becomes a litttle melted. I would suggest he take one fingerful of this evry now n then. but remember this is for a whole day. one tsp butter only for one day. if he has problems like high bp r cholesterol this option is ruled out.
2. Take honey with everything like milk, fruits, biscuits, bread, dry fruits. or if he prefers alone 4 to 5 teaspoons a day is a must. This option is gud only if he s not diabetic on insulin injection. If he is mildly diabetic on oral tablets inform me abt his latest sugar levels before starting anything. If i know more abt his medical history I can suggest some medication. But as of now if all these conditions are fullfilled go ahead n try these remedies n get back if u ve more doubts.
Regards,
CC

Hi Veen,
IF u r anemic its better to avoid coffee n tea n go for health drinks and or date syrup with milk. u should also eat lot of greens, sprouts, beets, apples, pomegranate, dates n u can eat jaggery sweets more than sugar sweets. All these if done consistently ll help u . Like if u want ur haemoglobin to go up by 0.1 u should take one apple a day n eat one green r sprout a day for one month without fail. I insist consistency in eating balanced diet ll help u.
Regards,
CC

Thanks a lot Dr Charu for suggesting these home remedies...My father has cholestrol problem so he wont be able to take butter..but he can take honey frequently.
Actually he has sinus problem since a long time n this dry throat problem might be related to that. He also has acidity problem because of which he has to take some medications regularly.
His throat becomes very dry because of which his sleep is very disturbed n he has to get up n drink water from time to time.
i will suggest the remedies given by you to him.
Thanks again for your valuable guidance.

Hi lahy15,
U have not expalined ur problem fully. I assume u have stomach aches n bleeding thru anus. I wud like to ve the following clarifications.
1. Does ur stomach hurt when its full r when say 2 to 3 hrs after food? do u get a burning sensation ?
2. hows ur bowel movement? u ahve constipation alternating with diarrhea? how often u get the feel to rush to toilet ? is it specific like after taking food ?
3. how often u get blood in ur stool? is it like the whole stools mixed wioth blood r u get streaks of bleed on stool?or is it like fresh blood after passing stool?
4. wat other symptoms u have like burning r pain when u sit? vomitting r gas problems?
I can answer u better after u reply to all these.
As a first step to all ur gastro problems I suggest u reduce spicy foods, deep fried foods. use less spices n ur food should be very less in spice n oil.
Regards,
CC
