dearest chitra mami

yest i tried Baked Thattai for afternoon snack. it was very quick and tasty. but of course the extra special oily crunch was missing. at the end of the chewing, i was feeling a little bit floury in my mouth. cant say it was my most favorite. definitely we can rustle it up quickly for an emergency snack.

dinner was no kathrika kozhambu (with no extra fringes as per DH demand) and potato curry. we all liked it a lot.

thanks a ton for sharing your tips on eating healthy,,,i too believe in eating a variety of fruits of different colours and of course fruits with low glycemic index ,the main advantage of staying abroad is the variety of fresh fruits and veggies we get to eat throuout the year,,i too regularly stock on fruits and bananas are just for my ds..i love water melons but then thats the only fruit that costs as much as its weight(i remember paying 5 -10 rs in chennai during college days),,i replace it with honeydue or galia melons..which we get here.you are truly an inspiration mami,,,i hope everyone follows certain diet principles with so much devour as you are doing...

got a bit carried away,,i dont get barley here mami,so i will just try with the oats and sago..]

soft rolls-aa,,,must try them as soon as possible as i love soft rolls..

Aarthi, first, thanks for looking into them!
They are the (ultra)soft type. Just before eating MW for 10-20 secs; it becomes feathery.

Since I don't like the stick type rolls, I did'nt attempt them.

The recipe of eggless strawberry roll literally fell on my lap when I was talking to a Guju friend whom I met in Marina, on my walk!!I tried it because only now, we get strawberries here!!
Now, digressing!
I see you in the foodaholic thread. Sharing some thoughts!
2 yrs back, I was going to a dietician to reduce weight. It was she who taught me the importance of fruits.Weight watchers should avoid banana,mangoes, chiku on a daily basis, but can eat them thrice a week, without fear.
What I write is for non-diabetics. Every week, I buy 2 med or 3 small papayas, 2-3 yellow melons & 2 small watermelons & 5,6 apples.
Once in 3,4 days, I buy chikus, guavas, oranges, grapes , pomegranate etc besides fresh figs, strawberry,valberi etc by turn. Vish is not a great fruit eater, but I compulsorily make him eat atleast 3 if not 5-6 like me.He has bananas daily - I avoid everyday.
I compulsorily eat papaya +any one fruit & oats for breakfast. I skip regular breakfast.
Evening almost everyday we have watermelon. Besides that I 'snack' on fruits at 8.30 since we have early dinner by 7PM! ;-)
I was not a great fruit lover,but compulsorily changed myself & enjoy its benfits now.Since it isnatural sugar, it gives energy & do not tire out easily.I use dates,soaked apicots, prunes,figs etc in milk shakes with skimmed milk or powder or smoothies with flax seed, wheat germ etc for breakfast.
It is all a 'developed taste' keeping weight-watching, & not losing out on nuitrition, in mind. Include fresh vegs as salads; to make them interesting include a nut & a dry or fresh fruit in salads.
I do indulge in sweets, but never over gorge. Eat everything but in moderation. Otherwise the feeling of deprivation gets the better of you & you end up, 'devouring'!! Have 2 idlis or dosaisor 2 bread slices, but fill yourself up with sambar with lot of vegs. I fill myself up with kootus!!

Like a trailer before a main picture - I did your peanutbutter-choc. It is so tasty, and is a perfect recipe for kids, to dig in all those peanuts into them. Ani loved it, a normal peanut butter hater he is. Will attach a pic on VF soon.
