Hello Mrs Chitra: I was searching for a recipe of Podalangai (snake gourd) Poricha Kootu, but couldnt find one. Could you please give me a recipe for the same ? Thank you.

Dear Ambuli, Welcome To I L & to this forum. For pudalangai poricha kootu, boil either moong dhal or tur dhal. The former is preferable. Add small cubes of the vegetable, haldi & salt & cook till soft. Grind coconut with green chillies & jeera & add the paste. When it simmers to boil, rempove & temper mustard seeds, urad dhal & curry leaves. Do not make it very spicy by adding lot of green chillies. It should be "mild". If you try, please write. Love, Chithra.

Dear Mrs. Chitra, Thank you for the recipe of poricha kootu. Will try it soon and let you know how it came out. BTW, is this the poricha kootu which is made during devasams?? If not, could you provide me the recipe for that style of kootu? Thanks again. Last edited by ambuli; 11th June 2007 at 10:45 PM.

Dear Ambuli, For devasams, only moong dhal is used. For the currymapodi, which is added to the cooked dhal & vegetable, roast pepper, urad dhal & curry leaves & powder. Temper with mustard seeds , jeera. Many do not add coconut for devasa samayal. In this poricha kootu, pepper flavour is predominant & that is the speciality. Love, Chithra.

Dear Latha, You can make chutney thus We have to fry little bit of urad dal, hing and green chillies and grind it with de-seeded amla, fresh coconut and coriander leaves. If we prefer we can add 4-5 whole black peppers at the end while grinding. Finaly garnish it will urad dal, mustard seeds in little oil. If you like you can add some curds to it. Just grind desseded amla, green chillies & raw mustard seed. Fry it in little oil lightly & mix with hot rice. That is nellikkai sadam. Just grind with green chillies & mix with curds & salt for pachadi. If you like any of these, lease write to me. Love, Chithra.
