Default Dress for husbands office party

Hi,
My husband's having his company party in the second week and I was wondering what to wear to it. According to my husband women wore cocktail dresses to the evening party.
Its only 3 years since I have been in US and I have never worn any cocktail dress.

1. Is there any website/store where I can shop for petite size coctail dresses.

2. Would a saree suffice? I am a llittle shy to wear a cocktail dress.

regards

Harini

Harini

If you're comfortable wearing a cocktail dress, then go for it. If not (or you don't find one you like in time), I think a saree would be a wonderful choice. I've worn sarees to "western" parties and formal dinners before and they've gone down a treat.

In South Africa (where I'm from), SA Indian women consider a saree to be formal wear (just as African women will wear their own traditional dress for formal occasions) and we wear sarees to graduations, formal dinners, non-Indian weddings, staff parties, etc. I've found the same to be true here in the US.

I'm pretty sure that if you wear a saree, you'll feel good, you'll look great, and you'll make a splash. It'll be a wonderful opportunity to show off your culture, and it'll be a great talking point and conversation-starter at the party. I'm betting everyone will like it so much, they'll put your picture in the annual newsletter ;)

Good luck!

I may suggest you one thing... You are going for a party u may not know all the people over there or none even...
In this case if your dress is not comfortable you cant enjoy there anything.. Will be consious about the crowd and the dress.. (u may feel uncomfortable till the party ends)

So whether it is a saree or cocktail dress see whichever is very comfortable for you...

Hi,

I think Saree will be the right choice if you're comfortable with that, you can represent your country in that way. As you're not comfortable to the cocktail dress you can have a second thought on Salwar Kameez. Party dress should be gorgeous.

Love

Rita

I finally ended up buying red cleeveless cocktail dress. Its length was just below the knee. I got the length altered to mid thigh length. Its similar to the one shown in the picture. It was then that I realised that I do need to get my full leg waxed. I need to do that too now.

Anyway thanks for the recommendations.

Regards

Harini

there are still two weeks left for the party and I am stiill thinking if it is modest. i had initiaaly thought about wearing a chiffon saree whith halter neck blouse, but I was a bit shy. In fact I have never worn a sleeveless before.( its only 4 yesats since i have been in the US).. WHAT R UR THOUGHTS?

REGARDS

Harini-if you are having doubts about the dress's modesty, ask your husband. Unless he's like mine, and thinks shorter is better. Your husband could also ask his workmates what type of dress is appropriate for the party.
I, myself, have rarely worn anything other than sarees or fancy salwar kameez to parties since I got out of the US Army (I had to wear uniforms when I was a soldier-I do not look good in that icky Army Green). You should wear what is comfortable for you and will not make you self-conscious at the function-there is nothing worse than having to smile and act happy and friendly at a function when you are not comfortable in your outfit.
Halter neck blouse and chiffon saree is a good choice, as long as YOU are comfortable.
