Hai,
have a panel of rectangle or square or any such thing for the front top with the pallu for the kameez, it will look nice.
You can buy chiffon or such material dupattas in gold or any other colour to match with the pattu salwar, if you are not able to get one from the saree itself. There are lots of very beautiful dupattas and also stoles to go with short kurta and parallels. Go ahead and stitch one, I had used one patola silk and also binny silk to make salwar (in 1996, during my brother's wedding) and they were just stunning. Sorry, but they are already used and discarded.
But if you want, I shall make some drawings and post them.

Hi PP,

Soap seeds means, 'பூ வந்தி கொட்டை' in Tamil and ' kunkudu kaai' (குன் குடு காய்') in Telugu.

Soak and remove the seeds. Then 'rub' ; it will 'bubble' like shampoo. In Andra they will use this, to wash their hair too. I use to put these in home made 'சீயக்காய் பொடி'.

In the soaked water you can wash your pattu saree, and after drying the saree willbe so soft. You will feel the difference between a soap powder wash and 'a soap seed' wash.

I thinkI explained well.

Hi Jayanthi,

First let me explain for saree doubt.

1. If you are not able to put them out in the shadow, please spread them in a sofa under fan. That will do. Daily put one or two saree like that.

2. I think you know about 'வசம்பு'. Get it and roll 2 of them in a white cloth. Keep that in your saree shelf, near the saree. Like this you can keep many 'வசம்பு' rolles near the saree, or where ever you want. This will not allow any insects.

3. Now to improve your memory: Daily before go to sleep, you just think what you did from the morning, with out leaving anything. Each and every thing that is, for example, going to bathroom, washing face, ...like that. When you forgot any thing and you remembered that after wards, then start thinking from first. This will improve your memery.

Try and tell. All the best.

Hi PP,

Yes, you can wash any saree with that and after washing you rinse with water. Then dont put it in the washing machine to dry. Just by hand remove the water and just put the saree as it is with out any shink. Let it dry. Then you can iron them.

But I donk know what is 'charak'. Can you explain?

Hey Krisnamma,
were to talking about reetha??
and about charak, i dont know the other name for that. my mom gives her sarees for charak when she washes her printed silk sarees at home, it gives a drclean look means the saree wont fall, it will be lil crisp.
i dont know if i explained it good enough.
tell me if i cleared the doubt.

Yes, he asked me to convert them as salvar and nighty. And he did when I was in India and sent it to me. Really it is a super idea and I asked him why you have not told this before.

Now I am wearing all my old pattu sarees, but in the form of salvar. It looks rich and in US also you can wear for small parties. In Saudi our Pakistani tailor made many models with those sarees.

I hope you can do if you want. Other wise, as your mother said refold the saree once in a while and just put them under fan. After some time keep them in the shelf.

Using 'soap seeds' is the best way to wash silk sarees.
thank you krishnamma for this wonderful idea.

Hi,

To preserve silk sarees for long if not for many days :

1).All the silk sarees, especially tissue sarees after first time wear, please do not iron them. After first use, please get them dry washed. Then u can fold and pack in a white cotton cloth or butter paper and preserve.
2).Atleast once in 2-3 months unfold the silk sarees and refold them.Orelse the sarees might damage soon in foldings.

3).If u want to wash any silk saree,we get a liquid called "GENTLE" in india. We can use that liquid to wash following the instructions given instructions on the gentle bottle.Or if u don't get that ,u can use soapnuts to wash the sarees(grandma's tip).

4).If they turn too dark,u can get them polished in any drywash centers.

Hope this helps u all,
-Cheers,
-Vaishu
