| | Looking Glamorous in a Saree ! !
It’s a known fact that every one of us Indian women are proud of our traditional wonder wear - the saree. I know that each of you would agree that wearing a saree does makes us feel glamorous and even more elegant. Though we do have lot of other alternative attire to put on, saree is still the ultimate, sensual and exquisite garment which still has that graceful appeal and I think that a saree is the best garment ever created for a woman in this universe.
Over the years there has been quite a lot of change in the saree and its accessory such as exotic designs, flashy colors, party wear types and of course the glamorous blouse designs as well.
The Indian women of today have become very conscious of their attire and modern appeal of saree wearing. Whether it’s a party or a function, official or casual wear, the saree does have a sensual edge over other garments and has taken shape in form of transparent chiffons, crapes or georgettes , silk, cottons etc. and of course blouses with low necklines, low backs, sleeveless, slip-ons, noodle straps, etc. and since majority of our women are endowed with well shaped hips which are ideal enough to carry off a saree elegantly, low-hip saree draping has equally become a casual fashion style of the day, though may or may not appeal to the older generation.
I just started this thread to get responses from any of you out there if you are a saree lover or a regular /casual saree adorner as to how much the modern saree wearing fashion appeals to you as one common fact is that we all look glamorous in our sarees,
cheers,
Sangeetha

Even though I like to wear sarees , I feel more comfortable in western clothes. Its also not very practical living in US. My husband's opinion is for me to wear it all the time at home. I said "don't have high hopes!". In my inlaws house they want both the DsIL to be in saree while at home and other dresses while going outside and being in and out with a saree in that hot Chennai weather is enough of a deterent. I am so glad to be living in US just for not being able to wear a saree everyday. My next choice would be a salwar.

Harisur, just out of curiosity...why are your inlaws telling you what to wear? Is that common in Chennai or other parts of India? And why are women so ready to obey such orders? I'm surprised only b/c women these days have careers and a solid education - don't you have the mind to wear whatever you want as long as it is appropriate?

Dear All,
Iam a great fan of sarees.Eventhough I weigh 56 kgs,I look like one fat lady in saree(Especially silk sarees & tussar sarees).People tell me that designer sarees are the best suited one for me.
Iam not an expert in saree draping.I should admit that.
I recently got a kora silk saree(blakc colour with triple shade.Excellent one).I looked like a big mountain in that one.It has become my favourite now. Please suggest me some tips to wear it properly and to look slim in my kora silk saree.
Thanks in advance.

Wow! I do agree that Sarees are the wonderful fitting for the indian ladies and there's no doubt that it gives a sophisticated look! I always admire my friends whenever they wear sarees; some of them leave their palloos floating and some appear with neatly pinned up on shoulder. I do have large collection of sarees in all varieties. Wherever my husband goes on trip he used to get me sarees of that region. Now I am in US....still I have bro't my sarees and I wear it whenever I feel like.
Sarees make you more graceful.....
Cheers to all!/Banoo

hi priya, sorry for the delay in replying to the post. i think u can wear nice chiffon sarees which can hug your body and make u look good. also u can tie the saree and pleat it very tightly and closely so that it looks very nice as well. wearing the saree low on the hip just a little below the navel can make u look attractive even with thick sarees as its the fashion these days that is f u r really looking at appearing good in a saree. short sleeved blouses add to looks as well and can enhance your hand length. if u r going in for a occassion u can leave the pallu loose which will give u a elegant look, Sangeetha

Saree is a dress which is traditional at the same time gives modern, majestic look. What ever be your size - saree suits you better.
I love saris very much particularly cotton saris. Instantly you will get a majestic look. To me, sari is the comfortable dress.

What a nice thread
i love sarees, i have a small collection of custome made sarees and i totally love them, i am 5ft 4" and weigh 55kg, the sarees look good on me and i totally love them, whenever i am travelling for my conferences on the opening and closing ceremonies i wear sarees and all my friends who are mostly europenas, africans and asians just stand with me to have their pics taken with me in a sari.
i remember in 2003 i was in japan in october attending a leadership academy and on the closing ceremony the delegates had to wear their national dress or traditional, since Kenya does not have a national dress i decided to wear my traditional one that is a sari and we were to walk to the venue i was draped in a sari and i was stopped every 5mins by the japanese walking on the street to have picture taken with me, i was so proud to be an indian in a sari.
Am looking forward to India again and get more saris
love
alpa
