Default Where has Law & Order gone?

Dear ILites,
Today,I have come across one more victim of dowry harrassement from AP. Where has the law & Order gone??Where has the humanity gone??
I really pity for her situation, she is badly infected by giving high dosage of drugs. This is one way of attempting to murder. Most of her body parts are burnt in a pathetic way.
Here the story goes:

Madhurima, daughter of a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (Home Guards) A. Rajendra Prasad, married George Chakravarthi of Hyderabad in September 2008. George was involved in restaurant business.
He was reportedly given Rs.10 lakhs as dowry at the time of wedding and an additional dowry of Rs.2 lakhs subsequently.
Madhurima alleged that her “alcoholic husband” used to torture her weeks after their wedding for additional dowry. He had allegedly threatened to kill her parents if she complained to the police.
Madhurima had a thyroid problem and was using drugs to keep it under control.
She alleged that her husband used to mix expired drugs along with her usual medicines without her knowledge.
The expired drugs had produced unusual reaction and black spots had appeared all over her body. Madhurima informed her mother about her situation.
She was then brought back to the city on August 30 and admitted to a private hospital. Madhurima said that hospital authorities had told her parents that she wouldn’t live for long.

Adding to this, though her father is a retd DSP, but still Police is unable to act on Chakravarthy and diverting the case.

After a couple of days at the hospital, the parents took her home on the insistence of their daughter. Meanwhile, Mr. Rajendra Prasad alleged that the police were not taking any action on his complaint.
When contacted, Three Town CI K. Ranga Raju said that the police had recorded the statement of Madhurima at the hospital on August 31 and were looking into it. He said that her parents hadn’t lodged a complaint so far.
Hope Madhurima gets full justice and support from our courts and police department

I feel sad for the girl.
If her father was a DSP himself why did he give dowery for his daughter's marriage? Didn't he understand that the person is behind money and not good for his daughter. If such policemen are around what else will happen. Now he is blaming police for not taking any action has he forgotten he was a part of the same force and they would be like him only. Was he sleeping while commiting a crime (giving dowery) himself and putting his own daughter in such situation. He should be punished first. Instead of that if he had used that money in something more productive and married his daughter to some decent person his daughter would have been happy.

Hi Vaidehi
You made a very good point. But I believe, we are still in clutches of dowry system. Howmany people are getting married without dowry? it is society's demand rather than people's demand I would say, we are in such a pathetic society where for money sake, they can kill anybody in the form of dowry harrassement. I think there are loopholes in our judiciary to save such worst people.
Parents still see a girl as a burden on their shoulders, just because of this dowry. So, whatever they earn throughout their life time, they are giving that hard earned money for their daughters. But parents should have to do a thorough search on groom's background before blindly getting their daughters married. Offlate, one more person came and told that Chakravarthy was their Son-in-law and he also tortured his daughter in the same way. So, Madhurima is his Second wife. Not sure if Madhurma's parents know about this.

LSP takes up dowry victim’s case
HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party has submitted a representation to the Human Rights Commission and the Director-General of Police seeking action against a Non-Resident Indian for allegedly harassing his wife and administering medicines that played havoc with her health.
The accused allegedly harassed his wife Madhurima, resident of Visakhapatnam, for more dowry and also threatened her parents, Lok Satta activists said.

All those who want to get married or marry their daughters/sons without dowry are doing so. Those who do not have the courage to oppose the so called society (which comprises of us only) are still burried into it. My parents were not ready to give any dowry even if it was arranged marriage neither do they want anything from my brother's wife not even the things they usually give my mom says i already have everything at home why more and if we need anything we'll get it don't need anyone else's money for that.

Yes you are right. One such flaw is the DSP father giving dowry for his daughter's marriage and then blaming his colleagues.

If they used that money for her education and personal growth she would be more independant to take care of herself even if some problem arises in her life.

Dowry case: George Chakravarthy remanded
Staff Reporter VISAKHAPATNAM: The Fourth Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday sent Baru Chakravarthy alias George, who is accused of torturing his wife Madhurima for dowry, to 14 days judicial remand.
In a related development, the Family Court also ordered the accused to pay maintenance of Rs.10,000 a month to his wife. Half of the amount was towards medical expenses and the remaining towards maintenance.
Parents to be held Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao said that the whereabouts of the parents of George Chakravarthy have been found out and they will soon be arrested.
George Chakravarthy had allegedly tortured his wife Madhurima for dowry and drove her to the verge of death.
He had surrendered to the police on Wednesday.
“They were aware of their son’s first marriage but had concealed the fact from Madhurima’s parents and hence they will be arrested,” Mr. Sambasiva Rao said in an interaction with the media on Thursday.
Property offences Referring to the growing property offences in the city, he said that the offences seem to be committed by the same gang.
The police have some definite clues and the accused would soon be arrested, he said.
The Police Commissioner appealed to people going out of the city on tour to write the date of going on tour, date of return, address and their phone numbers on a piece of paper and keep it in a sealed cover.
The sealed cover should be handed over to the Station House Officer at the police station concerned so that extra vigil could be kept at their house.

Thats really a good news. But not a suitable punishment to his mistake. He should also be given expired pills and high dose antibiotics.
