"Knowing about life and contributions of great people of Telugu in different faculties like Literature, Movies, Music, Dance, Drama, Art etc" The intention of starting this thread is to talk about all those great legends in Telugu, discussion on a topic (personality) can link another. Kalyani, I join my hand with you!! You made a good point and good discussion thread. But I dont know how our telugu ILites, are passive in this thread. Lets start with vemana maha kavi.He wrote Vemana sathakam almost in 16th century. Uppu kappurambu nokka polikanundu Chooda chooda ruchula jaadaveru Purushulandu punya purushulu veraya Viswadabhi rama vinura vema Great padyam it is......distinguishing among good and bad persons is like salt and camphor. The good justification made by hime. Eventhough vemana is no more definitely all his poetry wil alive for somany centuries ahead.
Hi i am telugu but not very fluent but although i didn't understand your poem, it seems nice. take care
Hi Priya and Huma, Welcome :cheers Very happy to see that the discussion opened with a gem of Vemana. Priya it is nice that you have given the meaning of the poem. I just want to add a point that there is no mapping between salt, camphor, good person and a bad person. It is said to distinguish both. Look at the clarity in the poem.. One more thing is the point is driven straight. Does not beat around the bush. Here is one more : I will quote it now. and give the meaning in my next mail. chitta suddhi kaligi cesina punyambu konchamaina nadiyu koduva kaadu vittanambu maRri vRikshambunaku yenta viswadaabhirama vinara vema Btw, ee viswadaabhirama evaro telusa? kalyani
I am giving the meaning of this poem posted by me earlier. Huma, for your sake, I am giving translation in the first part, then switching over to telugu. padaarthamu chitta = mind, suddhi = clean, kaligi cesina = having done punyambu = good (this refers to deeds) konchamaina = even if it is little or small nadiyu koduva kaadu = that is not insufficient vittanambu = planting seeds maRri vRikshambunaku = to get a banyan tree yenta = how much (is needed) ? viswadaabhirama vinara vema = Listen Oh Vemana! Bhaavarthamu With a clean mind, if one takes up a task, even it be small, it will be successful. The banyan tree grows after all out of a tiny seed. Listen oh Vemana! Ae pani che pettina, chinadaina sare, manasu petti cheste adi satphalitam avutundi. Marri chepptuku vittanamu enta kavali? oka chinna vittanunchi vistaristundi. Oh Vemana vinuDu! Analysis In the first two lines the poet emphasizes the need to put one’s heart and soul to the task at hand. Be it however small, it is sure to see the success. In the next line Vemana gives an example of a banyan tree coming out of a tiny seed. By telling himself, he is instructing the mind.
