Wow.. laks thanks for giving more info on them.

Ippudu Srinadhudu kavi gurinchi

Sreenaadhudu (1385-1475 AD) was a born poet. He began a new era that broke away from the translation era in Telugu literature. Sreenaadhudu had authored several independent works in Telugu. Most of his works are very sensual. He worshipped sex and enjoyed life with wine and women. Maruttaratcharitra, Salivaahanasaptasati, Panditaaraadhyacharitra, Sringaaranaishadhamu, Haravilaasamu, Bheemakhanda Kaashikhandamulu, Kreedaabhiraamamu, Sivaraatrimahaatmyamu and Palnaativeeracharitramu are his works. Among these, Maruttaratcharitra, Salivaahanasaptasati, and Panditaaraadhyacharitra are not available. Sringaaranaishadhamu was a translation of Sanskrit Naishadha kaavya written by Sreeharsha. In this work Sreenaadha described the sensual story of marriage of King Nala and Damayanti.

Hello KalyaniBhaskar,

nenu Viswanatha vari novels chadivi chala chala samvatsaraalaindi -
ainaa meeru adigaru kabatti, kaadanalenu. prayathnisthanu...

Sri Viswanatha varu Sanscrit (and Telugu and English) lo chala pedda scholar. a real genius. vaari prathi rachanalonu, oka kavyam kanipisthundi. oka prathyekamaina saili, research, detailed study of the subject, socio economic picture of the times, a lil bit of objective criticism, supportive study of our culture and customs, most importantly, a social message - ivee naku baaga gurthunna impressions. ayana rachanalu chadivetappudu oka rakamaina spurthi kaluguthundi - aa kadha lo purthigaa leenamaipothamu - he will take us into some kind of transcendetal state of mind and show us the picture in our mental eye... yes. I love his novels...

aithe oka chinna suggestion. evaraina modati saari telugu novels chadivetappudu maathram, vari novels tho start cheyyatam antha manchi idea kadu. endukante, modatlo vari saili konchem serious ga anipisthundi. ayana saili oka sari alavatu ayyaka, anthaa chala easy gaa anipisthundi. idi naa sontha opinion maathrame.

nenu high school days lo summer holidays lo library nundi novels thesukoni velli, ma polam daggara kaaluva gattu prakkana mamidi chettu needalo kurchuni (with strict instructions not to disturb.... ) chadavatam alavaatundedi. modata konni (chinna size novels) Yuddhanapudi sulochanarani, koduri kousalyadevi, lanti vari novels chadivanu. aa tharuvata Sri Viswanatha vari novels. ippatikee, naku alaanti rachayitha vere evaru kanapada ledu. may be, Kalidasu, Nannaya, Thikkana, Bammera Pothana, Shakespere, Tolstoy lanti vari kova loki chendina varu - Sri Viswanatha...

alagani bhayapada valasina pani ledu. oka sari chadivithe, ayana rachanalu manassuku hatthuku pothayi. marachi polemu. inkaa inkaa chadavali ani anipisthundi. there were times, when i used to read non-stop 5-6 hours at a time and still did not want to interrupt... its amazing - isn't it?!

Sri Viswanatha varu - variki vare saati!
a genius... a great scholar. a great writer...

Veyipadagalu ...

Sri Viswanatha rachanallo life story antha oka luminous halo, a semi-transparent painting la anipisthundi. His novels some times sound like a poem; with a response to its rhythms, its imagery, its timeless flow of memories and impressions...

Veyipadagalu novel lo Dharma Rao (the hero of Veyipadagalu,) looks like arguing in support of our culture and customs. His argument against the trespass and erosion of our culture by certain enemies sounds quite convincing and reasonable. It looks like he is totally intended to safeguard our own cultural interests.

The communion of the story, the plot and the theme, the characterization, the development of the story, the portrayal of the present day social circumstances and environs — or anything else is not against progress. Everything depends upon the spirit of love of national culture and patriotism. He projects the Gandhian view that village reconstruction is essential without losing the ancient village arts and crafts and the inherent rural charm and harmony.

"Veyipadagalu" (about 1000 pages - my mom used to call this - a "pillow-size-book"! soo thick) looks like an encyclopedia of the andhra landscape, lifestyle, culture and customs. "Ekaveera" is a short novel set in the Southern India under the Madurai kings. These two novels are outstanding!

Sri Viswanatha vari "Cheliyalikatta" kudaa naaku baaga nachindi. it gives a nice picture of life style of the youth of his times and how certain youngsters were misguided/distracted by the urban/modern trends/fashions and lost track of life and how the others prevailed and took care and progressed - it has a social message for the youth of the times. value systems etc.
"Swargaaniki Nichenalu" kuda konchem social set up lanti subject paina raasinde. story antha baagaa gurthu raavatam ledu ...

The power of his writings make a very strong impression on the mind of the reader. He is the master of the correct word and the correct thought, expressed in the correct context. His writings make the reader to think (and introspect) and adhere to the value systems ... teaches some kind of self-descipline and determination... and when you complete reading it, you feel some kind of accomplished feeling! its hard to explain, but its different!

Its an entirely different experience - reading his novels!

ps: intha yekkuva raasthaanani anukoledu - mothaniki chaalaa raasaanu. Thanks for asking!

Smt. S Varalakshmi passed away.. !!

First when I read it, I was sad to know that.. But then I immediately searched the online news dailies.. but the news wasn't there.

Yesterday the news came in almost all the news papers.
Here it is
The Hindu : Tamil Nadu / Chennai News : Noted yesteryear actor S. Varalakshmi is dead

Even TOI has reported.

Felt sad on knowing that the veteran actress passed away. I admired her acting as well as singing. She was a very good singer.
One could easily say that she was well trained in classical music.

She used to sing for her roles(self) in the movies. Some of her songs
1. varaala beramaya ( Sri Venkateswara Mahatmyam)
2. Namo bhoothanaatha (Satya Harischandra)
(Please Check out my Telugu movies thread for an account of
Satya Harischandra movie)

and many more melodies.. I could recollect two right now.

S. Varalakshmi in conversation with other actors and actresses. The Hindu : Friday Review Chennai / Down Memory Lane : Veterans recapture the past

Announcement on TV5 News
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl7GsO4FXEM

Let her soulrest in peace.

Hello Laksgaru,

You have given very good analysis of VS's novels.

Thanks for a nice post.
