Ahmedabad is known as the 'city of good food' and houses several theme restaurants.
Vishala is an artificially built, traditional Gujarati village located 4 km south of Ahmedabad on Sarkhej Road in Vasana. Potters and weavers make traditional crafts in mud and thatch huts. They serve spicy traditional Gujarati meals on leaf plates and in clay cups. Local folk music is played during the meal.
Have you visited Vishala, Ahmedabad? What is the best thing about it.
That sounds interesting Hetal. I've never visited a theme restaurant like this. It must be a great attraction for tourists to understand the food and culture of Gujarat and that too under one roof. Please tell us more about the place. Is it one of its kind of restaurant in Ahmedabad.
All I can say is that Vishala is one of the finest representations of traditional Gujarati culinary and cultural experience. From the time you enter the gate of Vishala, it takes you to a different world of 'rural Gujarat'. You can savor authentic Gujarati food served in the most traditional style on banana leaves and clay bowls, while you sit cross legged under a hut.
You can find waiters serving you the choicest delicacies to your heart's content, all attired in the traditional outfits. Besides that, you can enjoy live puppet shows, a museum of ancient cooking vessels and "open" kitchens. What's your take on this?
Very true. Vishala is a place that attempts to give the experience of living in an Indian village. It is more of a park than just a restaurant. You can see people demonstrating traditional village crafts (and purchase them). You can also hear some traditional music. The food is evidently vegetarian (village) food and has the usual Gujarati sweetness.
The food is well-prepared, tasty and has a lot of variety. So do not make the mistake of eating too much of the first thing; as they will keep serving you food the whole night.
According to me, apart from the rustic ambiance another important attraction of Vishala is theUtensil Museum here. It has a good collection of pots, utensils, boxes, scales, and pipes .
Visiting Vishala:
Bus # 31 comes here. If you are coming for the evening meal and not availing a private vehicle, it is a good idea to arrange an auto-rickshaw or taxi for a round trip plus waiting time because it can be hard to find return transportation at night.
