How often to call child in college?

There was a thread in Relationship forum related to talking to parent everyday on phone - this was a couple married over ten years.

Kind of fun question - If or when your preteen or teen grow older and goes off to a college in a different city, at 18 years, how often do you think you will call him/her after the first few weeks.

Will you do a lot of texting, whatsapp, skype?

If your child is already in college or working (not married),how often do you talk/text?

I think I might like to get at least a one line text each day. My friend's kid is completing first year, and she says boys are different, and she gets a text for sure when he needs something from amazon.

I might even be happy with seeing an 'Online' status in gmail or whatsapp.

LOL.. some of our parents had to learn "computer", we have these to learn.

Kids in college have their own life, they are old enough to iron out the problems in their life; why disturb their little haven?

Calling once or twice a month is sufficient. If they need to talk to us, they too can call once or twice a month.

I/they call very seldom, only if something urgent. We chat weekly, sometimes daily. They have a very busy life and phone calls disturbing. To chats you can respond when you have time.

I will in the dorm so much that others may think I am the oldest freshman.....:biglaugh

Moreover skype etc may be too uncool then.

Long ago before the Internet became prevalent, my folks would call me once a week. And also various members of the family and extended family write to me at regular intervals. I like write back. Correspondence!

Now, my mother panics if she doesn't get her one phone call a day!

When the the time comes, forget me moving next to the dorm. My mum would.
