    Cabbage-Shredder

This is available in S'pore for 1.50$. Infact a friend of mine got a similar Indian make piece for Rs 150 in an exhibition.
This is very convenient for shredding cabbage.

    Oil-Draining Ladles

The following ladles are useful, when we want to deep fry small amounts of quick-cooking - nuts, vadams, manathakkali vathal, curry leaves, poha, gram dhal etc. Otherwise they tend to get scattered in the oil and by the time we collect them in the perforated ladle, they become brown.
The one on left, I bought in Lifestyle and has a slanting handle.
I bought the one on right in S'pore Japanese shop Dais for 2$. This has a vertical handle & is more convenient.

The following is yet another small steamer cum drainer, I bought in Daiso. It can be used as a steamer to fit inside a vessel or as a drainer, held with tongs.

    Kitchen Timer

Kitchen timer is an essential gadget in the kitchen, according to me.
When using the pressure cooker or pan, I simmer the gas once the whistle comes & set the timer for 10mts for rice, dhal etc.
Rosogulla, soaked gram dhal etc require 7 mts.
When deep frying kachoris, samosas, badushahs etc, it is safer to set the time, to avoid under-frying.
The make Sunbeam is from the US (4$) & the metal one is from Lifestyle, bought 4 yrs back for Rs 250.
