Answer to puzzle 5089 Person: Chiang Kai-Shek Chiang Kai-Shek was the leader of KMT who lead the Northern Expedition to unite China. Eventually there was a civil war between the Nationalists lead by Chiang Kai-Shek and the communists ((CCP) lead by Mao Zedong. CKS moved to Taiwan and became the leader of Taiwan forming Republic of China. Mao Zedong consolidated his power in China and formed a communist government People's Republic of China in mainland China. He led the second Sino-Japanese War during the second world war. In Taiwan, he formed his government and ruled until his death in 1975. He was also responsible for "White Terror" - killing communists and dissidents.
