After this mishap you still want a puzzle from me ? :rotfl I swear that in making my (next) puzzle, I stuck to the format so the answer is just a google away. If we can find the time to publish it? We have Gauri's and Satchi's lined up and about 48 hours to wrap up the year.
Pardon the delay, strapped for time. Answer to 4785 is Papaver somniferum, (sleep inducing puppy, oops, poppy) a major export of British India. For more about opium trade: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_opium_in_China#Growth_of_the_opium_trade Basically, to pay for Chinese goods, the British smuggled Indian opium into China. Images: The two opium wars were fought between the British (image 3) and Qing empires (image 2) After the first opium war, Hong Kong (image 5) became a British colony as a result of the Treaty of Nanking, an unequal treaty (image 4) The second opium war is also known as the Arrow war (image 6) HSBC (image 7) was established to facilitate the opium trade.
@PriyaSrini, You can perhaps publish the results of your last puzzle as most found out the answer after some excellent clues. Whoever is ready with the next puzzle, please publish them as we are 48 hours away for a new theme. :rotfl
@PepperPot, Your puzzle's puppy took me to a video game called "Sleeping Dogs". Incidentally, this game is also about Hong Kong. I didn't realize you assign a very simple meaning for that sleeping puppy. Despite all the cautions from Gauri, I still keep overthinking the puzzles.
It's been a great run and lots of fun. Learned so much from these puzzles. Let's keep them coming in the new year. Stay thirsty for knowledge my friends! Here's my last one on this theme. There are many of its kind. I need a specific name. Very easy common link between the movies. Indian. Nothing to do with the movie business. Really easy!
