This is the longest puzzle time I spent to find the answer. I gave up twice and restarted again when things started to reveal itself. Probably, too much cosmic energy was entering my Sahasra Chakra.
Reminded me of this - The Sad, Beautiful Fact That We're All Going To Miss Almost Everything : Monkey See : NPR Read it yesterday. At first it depressed me, then it felt strangely liberating. I don't need to, or have to, learn/experience everything! Learning, even living, for me, is about the process -- about chewing and savoring what I bite!
Answer for post 3259 (link heavy!) Rig Veda Mandala 10 It contains the famous Nasadiya Sukta, the Nadistuti sukta and the rituals for Hindu weddings and funerals. Explanation: Vedas are 'shruti' (=that which is heard) texts and hence 'apaurusheya' (=not of a person = author-less) This is versus 'smriti' (=that which is remembered) texts like puranas. The keywords I meant by the images: Row 1: 1 - burning oil RIG (I thought the fire was a nice touch :bang given that Rig veda starts with a hymn to Agni ) 2 - Sophia (in Greek) => wisdom; Veda (in Sanskrit) = knowledge 3 - Mandal 4 - the number 10 (Also, the 10 heads of Ravana are supposed to represent his knowledge of the six shastras and the four Vedas. Most statues/paintings only display 9 heads. I don't know if this is for the sake of symmetry or because Ravana was supposed to have cut off one of his heads to please Shiva) A google search for 'Mandal 10' brings up this wiki entry for Mandala 10. The page pretty much explains the whole puzzle. Row 2: 1 - Rivers (Though irrelevant to solve the puzzle, that is Irrawaddy river. Its name is derived from the Vedic Iravati {Ravi} river) 2 - Death rites or funeral A google search for 'Indian Death rites' or 'Indian funeral' brings up this wiki page: Antyesti It quotes from 'Rigveda, section 10' 3 - Marriage (How many of you were around and remember the kanyadaan thread last year around this time? I tried to create a puzzle on vedic wedding then but it fizzled out. I have been trying to create something based on this Mandala since then. Finally, coherent or not, unleashed it on you all. I am quite tickled that Viswamitra solved this, given his namesake's involvement with Rig veda.) 4 - Background photo => Creation, cosmology (Though not needed for the puzzle, the photo is of Eagle Nebula, pillars of creation) Symbol of atom => Atheism (Google 'atom symbol meaning' and it should return atheistic results. As a teenager, I remember painting this symbol on a t-shirt) I was hoping that atheism with a question mark will hint at Agnosticism Wiki's entry for Agnosticism has a section for Hindu philosophy which quotes the Nasadiya Sukta. Or simply, a google search for 'ancient indian cosmology' brings up this page: Hindu Cosmology which again mentions the Nasadiya Sukta. The rose was to evoke the title song for 'Bharat Ek khoj' which includes some of the Sanskrit chants and Hindi translation of Nasadiya Sukta. I love that song.
Not that this is something that you will agree to. In a sense rebirths/several janma (s) are supposedly meant for the accumulation of knowledge. This poor soul hasn't read/thought much about this though Thanks for the link, its a good read. There is a saying in Tamil - Katradhu kai man alavu, kallaadhadhu ulagu alavu - meaning what we have learnt is equivalent to the size of a handful of sand while the unknown and unlearnt (is there a word like that?) is equivalent to the size of the world. I am sure such sayings exist in other languages.
