Trying my 3rd pictorial puzzle. Still learning. Identify the indian person. All the clues are connected. One is the year timeline clue as well. There are 5 pictures. The spacing is not coming out well. The first pic is just "Saare Jahan Se Accha".
The first pic is just words then? Akanksha, a bit of fellow-memberly advice - take a look at some of Soka's puzzles from the past year, go through the puzzle, try to solve it with keyword search, see his textual hints, the follow-up clues, and most importantly, Soka's explanation of his pictorial clues. Also, that picture of IG being shot can be disturbing and graphic for some. One more suggestion to newbies - find one not-newbie member willing to sacrifice a puzzle, and send your puzzle to them by PM for "testing"
@Viswamitra If I have solved the puzzle then I generally like it and leave an oblique answer, lack of response could either mean I haven't solved it or the puzzle maker beat me to posting the answer. Who me? :bonknah... I just try to keep up with all others. When a new puzzle is up, I am probably as excited as Orion when he gets a new toy (or a ball as in your avatar ) , it has become addictive too. In the end, the eureka moment is worth losing sleep over.
Thanks Rihana. No more puzzle from me. Answer to 3216 Person: Rakesh Sharma, the first indian to travel to space. Ouch this is what I was afraid of... The subtle undercurrent in the last few posts....there is a bar set which puzzle makers/solvers have to aim to reach... "Am I good enough to even participate in that thread" "Am I good enough to post one?" Ofcourse u are ... Some have been here a lot longer than others..so their puzzles and styles have evolved quite a bit ...so will urs...in time. We really dont want all puzzles or the textual clues to resemble @sokanasanah now do we..part of the fun for me has been to figure out how the puzzle maker thinks...what they think is important..what those images mean to them...how they help the users along.....I learn as much about the puzzle maker as I do about the object in question. Let people have their own styles of choosing pics.. Agree with @Gauri03 they need to be identifiable to facilitate the solving..but thats probably where it begins and ends.
Okay folks, time for a time out. The point of this thread is to have fun. To have a place to talk and learn. No one is judging anyone on the quality of their content. Some of us have been doing this for nearly a year and a half, and we've figured out which puzzles succeed and which ones fizzle out. Any advice being offered is well-intended. When you put in the effort to make a puzzle and find only 2-3 takers, it is an indication that something is off. When a puzzle doesn't generate a good back and forth, it is a loss for the participants. That is the only reason I keep giving suggestions. I don't want people to feel bad when their puzzles don't find an audience. I have made terrible puzzles. I have been told by my dear Aria that my puzzle was stooopid! One of my puzzles was completely wrong. I gave the wrong clues. I didn't even realize it until Soka pointed it out after I posted the answer. But instead of acting as a deterrent, it only made me research my puzzles more thoroughly before posting. I take at least 2-3 days refining a puzzle before I post. I know that there is a lot of excitement and people are eager to post, so a few pointers on how to ensure that your puzzle is a superhit, shouldn't be taken amiss. Yes, Soka's puzzles are great and I personally aspire to the day I can make mine as interesting and creative as his. There is a bar we have set here and I see nothing wrong in trying to keep our standards high. If we let the quality of the puzzles slide, soon everyone will lose interest in the thread and it will die a sad death. Nobody wants that. We are all big boys and big girls. Why be afraid of a little well-meaning criticism? If you don't like my preaching, let me know and I will shut up. But if the tone of the thread keeps devolving into drama, I'm afraid I can't hang around here much longer. That is not why I started this thread. Every single person on this thread is welcome and valued. You all bring something unique here -- backgrounds, knowledge, interests and perspectives. I truly mean that. Let's please get back to puzzle business.
